If Parker genuinely wants 70k then we may have to look elsewhere. He's a top player but that's a hefty wage (I think) compared to what we pay the rest of our squad.

He's not the sort of calibre of player I want coming in and being pretty much our top paid player. That could only be justifiable for a real trophy signing (and indeed would have to be).

I don't see him as the answer for us unless we were to have the sort of mass exodus that Ar5ena1 can look forward to.

Villa bid for Parker

McLeish continues recruitment plans with £7m offer for midfielder

Skysports.com understands Aston Villa have made a £7million bid for West Ham star Scott Parker.
The England international is certain to leave Upton Park this summer after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League last season.
Parker, who is under contract until 2014, has been linked with a return to former club Chelsea,

with West Ham admitting they may agree a loan deal.
But Villa's bid could persuade Hammers co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan that a permanent sale is the better option.
Wage bill

Villa will have money to spend when the £19million sale of England winger Stewart Downing is confirmed and they are understood to have bid for Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia.
New Villa boss Alex McLeish is attempting to make changes to his side and a fee has also been agreed with Manchester City

for goalkeeper Shay Given.
Parker, the 2010/11 Football Writers' Association Player of the Season, is also on McLeish's wanted list and it remains to be seen how West Ham respond.
They will need to cut their wage bill after dropping into the Championship and it was reported on Thursday that they wanted Chelsea to pay £4m plus Parker's wages for a loan.
Chelsea are in need of midfield cover after Michael Essien

was ruled out for up to six months following knee surgery, but boss Andre Villas-Boas may not want a permanent signing.

On thought I'd rather we keep Jenas than buy Scott over rated Parker. Palacios should also be retained, in fact I'm very happy with our options in central midfield.

We all know where we need to strengthen..upfront! oh and keep Luka Mdoric.

Good to har that Harry rules out a bid for Parker. This is not what we need. Not even for £5mill. We can do a lot better.

I wouldn't take this as literally as most people. Harry always rules out signing someone because they're too expensive, before we sign them.

I'm taking this as evidence we're in for Parker, but might prefer the loan option.

Makes sense - a like-for-like replacement for them for Reo-Coker.
Parker is a significant improvement on Reo-Coker, and every other central midfielder at Aston Villa.

He'll be a great signing for them and I would've liked him at Spurs, but I'd hate to have seen him on £70,000 p/w wages, as I only believe he'd be at the top of his game for two more seasons. After that, we're stick with a very expensive unwanted player. It'd be like Keane all over again.

'a lot better' ?

He was player of the season, playing for a losing team. I don't get why people wouldn't want to pick that player up. He has real steel,'character and leadership. There's no way we'd of thrown away so many points against the lower teams with him in the side.
