The problems arise if it's like the Musacchio situation a couple of years ago - i.e. 22m (in an unspecified currency - is it Pounds or Euros?) buys Porto out, but then there are shady "others" that need to be sorted as well. Who knows - maybe his agent has seen the fees that Rail in particular has been raking in recently and is demanding some ridiculous fee?

If it's true he has this release clause for 22 million, and we're serious about him then we should just pay it and get him in ASAP. Given his versatility, a very Poch like quality, then get on with it. Else let's start bedding KWP in, he'll need it given the volume of games we'll be facing next season. Levy has done some great things over the last few years but his reputation as a bendy negotiator remains and it'll be pube-rippingly painful if this gets fucked over because we stalled on a release clause that's currently affordable to us

We can't keep demanding top dollar for our players yet refuse to pay it for those playing for other teams. If Poch wants Pereira, then Levy should be paying that release clause and bringing him it. Maybe it's a bit more murky behind the scenes, but I'd hate for us to miss out on our first choice (again) while we attempt to save a couple of million.

It happens more often than not, tbh. I'm still not so confident on this one.

If Tripper really is going to be first choice, is it really wise to spend £22m on a back up?

I know that money gets you an average player these days, but it's clear we are not going to be spending big this window. Might be better directing that £22m elsewhere.

He won't be a back up, he's a versatile player whom can cover multiple positions and will be competition for several 1st team players.

He is young and had a good season in the French league with Nice be a good backup to get used to the EPL.
I have seen reports saying 22 million isn't enough for the player he is now.

He can play CM too and pretty well I think.

Pretty sure he's played RB, LB, CM and RM so all that could be very handy for us going forward. He could be potentially seen as someone who replaces Sissoko too.

Where else can he play confidently?

Not trying to be an arse, I just don't know much about the guy.

Edit: Nevermind, answered above!

Yeah not saying I don't want to sign him or he's not worth £22m. We just seem to have pretty limited funds in today's mental transfer market.

I have seen people on SC say he has the ability to play other postions. Poch does like players with versatility.

I think Porto's point is that his release clause wasn't re-newed after his performances in France, at their own cost. So £22mill is the absolute min they will take. Cos if he signed a new contract, it'd be more like a £50mill release.

I think.

I suppose its wether Levs will take the gamble or not. I would like to think in a years time he would be worth much more due to him being so young.
