The issue is there’s either always going to be a binary, a point where it goes from on to offside, regardless of where you move it.I don’t know any more.
I feel like to be offside you should be far enough ahead of the defender to get an advantage (which this one clearly doesn’t).
just by being mathematically provable feels like it’s taken the argument away from its origins.
Yeas I totally get your point but to use an outdated example, would you be ok with crouch getting flagged for offside because his leg is longer (and as a result his kneecap juts further than the somewhat shorter defender that he is level with?)The issue is there’s either always going to be a binary, a point where it goes from on to offside, regardless of where you move it.
That or you make offside subjective, and that seems like a can of worms not worth opening. I really don’t want someone judging whether or not Son gained an advantage, and whether or not Costa would be called offside in the same position because he’s slower
I fully agree with your point and your intent, but I just don’t think there’s a way of perfecting this system, I think what we have now in terms of rules is as close as we’re going to get. Is a part of your body that you can score with closer to the goal than the last defender.Yeas I totally get your point but to use an outdated example, would you be ok with crouch getting flagged for offside because his leg is longer (and as a result his kneecap juts further than the somewhat shorter defender that he is level with?)
He was reaching for the yellow and just held off in case VAR came down with another thought. I did seem odd.It seems to me that the referees are waiting for VAR to tell them what to do. Whether it’s a red or a yellow card.
Leeds Villa today. Took an age to give a yellow card.
I thought it was the same with the Emerson red card. It just seems that they are waiting to be told by the VAR and not actually refereeing the game.He was reaching for the yellow and just held off in case VAR came down with another thought. I did seem odd.
some of the Referee decisions at the weekend were incredible,Compare the penalty given against Newcastle and the one not given against Arsenal.
Can this really just be ineptitude or is there something more in it??
Or to suit who they are refereeing.some of the Referee decisions at the weekend were incredible,
there were about 4 or 5 games with the penalty calls or non-calls to fouls getting yellow cards that were worse than Emersons red last week.
It's like the refs just change the rules each week to suit themselves.
Thanks. I agree she should have been in the box. As for the foul itself, I can see the whys and the why nots as well. I think there is a slight push on her, but she's also backpedaling at the same time. I'm not sure if she ever had a chance of getting the ball. However, the keeper is almost always given the benefit of the doubt in these situations.I think it's a clear foul. From a ref perspective, I think she took a very poor position. Everything screams that this ball is going to be on top of the keeper. A more proactive position perhaps near the penalty spot would have probably let her see the foul.
As a former goalkeeper (of sorts) and despite my bias, that's never a free for the 'keeper. As Taidgh says, she's backpedaling and her positioning, I think is far too central. It's much easier to go for a high ball going forwards than backwards.Thanks. I agree she should have been in the box. As for the foul itself, I can see the whys and the why nots as well. Worked out for the Bruins!
I also don't want to be too strict because I personally know at least one of the referees on the crew of that game.Thanks. I agree she should have been in the box. fair enough. I'm fine with it not being a foul...just surprised it wasn't given.I also don't want to be too strict because I personally know at least one of the referees on the crew of that game.
Is the state of refereeing worse or is the focus and attention on it greater than ever? I think we are now expecting perfection from people which I don't think is possible. ?The state of refereeing at the moment.
Has it ever been this bad? I'm not so sure.
