I don't disagree with a possible tug, I disagree with Aurier decision making.....

View attachment 62120
If he plays the simple ball the way he's facing winks clears the ball.

View attachment 62121
Instead he tries to turn inside his man allowing the Southampton player to close the space (in all likelihood winning the ball regardless of a tug due to his forward momentum)

View attachment 62122
The ball is then through the line leading directly to the goal.

In these key positions we need to start playing the percentages. It's not just Aurier, there are many culprits. We attempt to hold on to the ball where we should often play the way we are facing.

If you watch Liverpool they rarely get caught in posession because in the middle of the park they release the ball quickly when facing their own goal.

I have just watched again, and I believe that he thought Winks was being closed down so looked for another option. If he had given it to winks and winks was closed down and dispossessed then he would have been blamed also. The foul was key.

Like Norwich, a game of two halves.

Other night for the first half we pressed high and stopped them playing out. Today we started with a different but clear tactical plan - drop in behind the ball, everyone that is, coax them up the pitch and then take advantage of their susceptibility to the counter. It went well, we defended very solidly as a unit, broke forward numerous times with quick passing interchanges, and only lacked the final finish. Apart from that final touch, I thought we were doing well.

But then the second half, once again, just total and utter bollocks. And I'm seeing exactly the same sort of thing. OK there are two teams in the contest and the other might up their game and have a go, but we've come out after the break two games in a row and just seemed to totally lose the plot. Again all of a sudden instead of having a nice solid collective in behind the ball/singing off the same hymn sheet, you see people like Alli, Son, Moura, just check out and get caught ahead of the ball and not getting back in time and again. Lamela comes on, and for all his effort he's again caught ahead of the ball constantly, and even Lo Celso for all his tenacity and work with the ball to get us ahead in the game was clearly flagging and not really in the right positions sat in front of the defence when in the cm2.

It's hard to play any football and construct some play when you've got five or six as the only ones doing any defending and taking a battering. Often then picking the ball up and just forced into clearing their lines with scrappy ball or have the sight of some strollers somewhere upfield half asking for the ball. When the team becomes disconnected it affects you both with and without the ball. Even so Southampton were as wide open as we were and we had numerous opportunities to get at them but barbecued them through shit touches, too many of them, and/or crap decision making in the heat of the moment.

Also have no idea why Mourinho doesn't do anything to at least try and plug the gaps and stop this stupid open rancid bollocks football. when you have halves of football pan out like that. Redknapp, Sherwood, Poch all got stick for it, and so should he.

We should have gone in comfortably ahead but for terrible finishing. Somehow during our worst spell in the game we finally managed to take the lead. But we didn't change, we kept going through the motions, kept wide open, and unsurprisingly didn't see it out. Be nice if we could manage somewhere near 90 mins of cohesive, tactically and technically smart football.

I really like Lo Celso and look forward to watching him in the same team as N’Dombele. Hopefully will get to see this against City.

I feel much of the flak Dele is getting was decided pre match. Granted sat in the away end of St Mary’s I didn’t have the benefit of much visual perspective but he put in an incredible shift, closing, tracking, and was constantly trying to drive us forward.

Lucas looked liked a winger playing up front, Son had good and bad moments and seems to make the wrong choice whenever the shot isn’t on, Gedson seems energetic enough but not overly involved and Winks seems to get lost the moment the game goes at high tempo.

Lo Celso looks like what we’ve needed since summer 2012.

First time I’ve watched us live under Jose and I wasn’t impressed. Absolutely no control of the game it seemed to me. A few counters where we could’ve scored, but generally speaking: incapable off stringing a few passes together, always looking like a mistake was coming, no desire. Didn’t seem like we had the ball at all really, under any control at least.

But I’m always willing to acknowledge I didn’t see the whole game.

Whats up with Dele and his terrible attitude these days? Yelling at everyone, throwing his hands up all the time - haven't seen a smile on his face for a long time. Watching him make countless errors and then trying to blame it on other people... Honestly is the type of player we really could do without. Will be an unpopular opinion but his attitude will effect the team hugely and it would be much better for everyone if he gets it together or moves on... team performance and morale will improve.

We were being overrun towards the end , some of our players seemed knackered , holes appearing in our defence , we needed fresh players
Dier not enough 2 more needed . Wtf was going on with our left back . Acres of room for Soton forwards to pick their passes .

It was looking better earlier on played some good stuff . Then we got seriously tired . I hear the excuses , number of games played etc , but other teams don't seem so afflicted .

Jose up to date with latest developments in Prem player fitness ? Thought his 'Git the wagons in a circle' instruction (saw him gesturing to players to get back and defend) seemed a bit outdated . We needed to hold the ball to play it out , not get big players to pack our defence .
Get Ndombele out there to calm things down.

MoM Lo Celso 9 , way better than other Spurs players .

To many players not on his wave length imo.
A lot of people are pre judging him without acknowledging the amount of work he gets through. Son for example only has a forward gear and doesn't track runners.

I don’t think I agree. I think he get’s fed up too easily. Too many times I’ve seen him throw his hands up in the air and turn away too soon: when the ball isn’t dead, when he hasn’t been fouled, when the pass to him wasn’t that bad. I rate the kid but he’s getting too experienced to still be making those mistakes.

The fitness issues have been there all season. Something went wrong in preseason IMO. Just look at how unfit Ndombele was despite being with us from day one. I think one of the ITKs suggested there was a change in the fitness staff. I don't think its burnout either, we didn't look this bad last year and that's when we didn't have a preseason.

Jose has had to deal with serious deficiencies in fitness and confidence since arriving, but that's what you get when you take a job mid season. It's why someone like Poch who has high stock will always wait to take a job in preseason.

The stupid little skip he does when he loses the ball gets on my nerves

I’ve always loved all-round central midfielders and Lo C is my new Dembele. Instant favourite on current showing.

I felt the team had a bit more interplay going forward than Vs Norwich

GLC standout player but also thought Dele was quicker and more positive with the ball than of late

Lloris 6 not much to do
Aurier 7
Toby 6
Sanchez 5 ragged
Tanganga 6 Would be more natural right sided
Winks 6 OK
GLC 9 Tenacious and creative. Great display
Fernandes 5 Wanted him to do well but rarely involved
Dele 7 best game for a while
Son 6 should have done better with other chances
Moura 5 ineffective again
Lamela 7 battles and creates
Dier not enough time
It would have been good to brring on Ndombele for Moura with 20 mins to go to regain midfield control
