Gave it to Vlad because I feared the worst when he was included but he was surprisingly steady. Awful, lacklustre performance all around though.

I didnt see the whole game as i sky plussed it and it was such wank i fast forwarded small chunks of it to get the torture over sooner. I gave eriksen mom as on the rare occasion we did anything positive he was involved and this was despite teammates who couldnt be arsed to support him or move into a space, or stood ontop of him meaning he had to work doubly hard to find a team mate. Also i felt he won more tackles and battles without the ball than normal. But i guess i felt sorry for him having to try and be the attacking force on his own against some clogger norvern journeymen

Vorm 5 - shakier than a shittin dog

Walker 0 - times time cock. Ship oy

Vlad 7

Dier 7

Rose 7

Poorlinho 4 - dear me

Mason 6

Bentaleb 5.5

Chadli 3 - bang out of form. Hasnt kicked on at all. Needs to be shut down for a bit

Eriksen 7.5

Kane 6

Davies 6.5
Lamela 5

Vorm was solid enough.

Walker was dreadful, the injured.

Dier was authoritative and dependable.

Chiriches was composed and solid.

Rose was energetic and purposeful.

Mason was poor.

Bentaleb was useless.

Eriksen was our only bright spark

Paulinho was less than useless.

Chadli continued his recent theme of being a passenger.

Kane was starved of service but looked lead footed when he was involved.

Davies was commendable in an unfamiliar role.

Lamela provided some creativity and ingenuity.

Townsend failed to get into the game.

Pochettino had a stinker. Our best playmaker in his worst position. Persistence with Bentaleb and Chadli who have both been woeful lately. Starting and finishing the match with Paulinho, a man who has no place anywhere near our side. Failure to give much time on the pitch to a Townsend who would've been brimming with confidence. Another match with no Dembele despite his recent form being far superior to all of the following of today's starters: Bentaleb, Chadli, Eriksem, Paulinho.

Nothing is more frustrating than when the correct decisions are obvious and yet the manager fails to make them!

That was fucking awful. Really quite bad.

The atmosphere was crap. Team selection - wrong. Application - poor.

In a valiant attempt to find positives, our defence did well today against an albeit blunt Burnley attack, and playing devils advocate - perhaps our appallingly limited movement and press up front was as a result of a focused attempt by Poch to sure up our defence (as I said, Devils Advocate there).

Dier and Rose were our two best players and handled what they needed to well - Rose once again stood out as possibly the only player on our team who really looked enthusiastically up for the battle. Dier quietly went about his business and did well against a difficult front two to handle. Chiriches also had an okay game, but he is just a bizarre footballer isn’t he. There seems to be next to no middle ground with him, and when at one moment he is calmly taking the ball out of defence or raking a sublime cross field ball right at Walkers feet, the next minute misplaces a simple 2 yard pass, or does something else which just leaves me a confused individual.

Even if you make an argument that defensively we were not great, it was certainly not our biggest problem.

We move further up the pitch however and it was very ugly.

Yet again the heart of the problem lies with the attacking midfielders, or more accurately, Poch’s choice of them. The only reason I can fathom why Lamela and Dembele are not starting games is because they are simply not training well enough - because if we are going by on pitch performances here, Chadli, Townsend, and now Paulinho are not offering enough both on the ball and off it to justify starting. We don’t see these guys every day, so never know what is going on or how players are applying themselves. IF that is the reason it offers an interesting conundrum in rewarding hard-work vs match performance (somehow I can’t imagine Lamela anything other than an obsessive trainer though).

Whilst the Mason and Bentaleb duo seems to be getting a bit of stick at the moment, today was yet another example of how the whole team can suffer if you have lazy players in front. Whilst Mason and Bentaleb were hardly inspiring, there was nothing going on in front of them, and the lack of movement and energy in front meant they were having to hold on to the ball for longer than they should be, and slowing down our play. More often than not - this resulted in either one of them getting caught in possession, playing an errant pass, or giving it straight back to the defenders (an eerily familiar pattern isn’t it?).

It is for this reason that Dembele’s disappearance has surprised me so much. In matches like today where we are really struggling to get a grip, he offers such a useful outlet. He could have sat in behind Kane today, and with his amazing ability to keep possession brought the whole team further up the pitch. Playing Paulinho was just a baffling selection, and whilst he was okay when he came on last game v. Leicester - I am not really sure what Poch expects to learn about him that he doesn’t know already. He has been given numerous chances in cup competitions to impress and he drags out the same mediocre, uninspiring football every time he is trusted with a starting place.

I really hope we don’t just sleepwalk our way to the end of the season but this is entirely where we are headed right now.

Individual:

Vorm: No complaints. Did well when called upon. Has v. good distribution as well.

Walker: There was a moment in the first half which summed him up perfectly. Full pelt, he charged in for an extremely good interception in Burnley’s half igniting an attack. Lays it off to Erikisen who then passes it back to him with plenty of options in the box. The amount of attacking potential seems to overwhelm him however, panicked, and played a stressed pass to an offside Mason once the move had broken down.

Dier: Assured game at the back. Played well.

Chiriches: An odd player. He seems intent on mixing the good work he does with some really bizarre bits of play. Overall - decent game though

Rose: Should have been given the captains armband today. Is playing with far more energy and enthusiasm than anyone else right now.

Bentaleb and Mason: Will pair them together. I though Mason was slightly the better of the two, but in all honesty entirely uninspiring by both, were loose in possession and failed to take hold of the game. HOWEVER: It is extremely hard to look good when there is sweet fuck all going on in front of you.

Paulinho: So Poch started him in the central attacking mid role. How exactly we are meant to play this high tempo, high intensity, all action, pressing football with him at the creative hub of the team I really do not know. It was an entirely expected insipid performance.

Chadli: Needs to be dropped. I do feel he has value in this squad, but he is just not playing well and hasn’t been (understandably) since he came back from bereavement leave. His lack of work off the ball was literally apparent within the first 20 seconds of the game, when Kane closed down the centre back who played it off to the Burnley right back. Nacer was a couple of seconds behind the press, and the Burnley right back could very easily hoof it up the pitch without any pressure.

Eriksen: Just didn’t happen for him. He tried to make it happen, but through a combination of poor form and a distinct lack of quality from the two attacking mids playing alongside him was ineffective.

Kane: A poor game I thought. When we just needed someone to hold the ball up and bring others into the game, he attempted too many impossible dribbling situations and his decision making overall was not good. However his service was beyond crap and the two Burnley centre backs gave him a tough time.

Subs

Lamela: What have you done to upset Poch so? We were still not brilliant when he came on, but there was a marked difference in the speed of our play when he was on the pitch.

Davies: Slotted in well at centre back.

Townsend: NET.

Poch: yet again, really poor team selection. Will be interesting to see how he approaches the remainder of the season and he certainly needs to have a re-watch of the Arsenal and Liverpool match tapes.

Danny Rose MOTM.

Paulinho and Chadli are two of the biggest pussies I have ever seen.
Such boring play from so many boring players under the guidance of a boring manager.

Townsend my MOTM

Came on in the 83rd min and completely changed the game. Including the 3mins injury time that's the best 10mins I've seen from a player in ages

Well done Andros. Good to see you continuing your good form after coming on for England and silencing your critics

I didn't watch the game as I had to go to a wedding but after 10mins of the radio I realised it would be more wise to be listening to music.

I come back and see that Chiriches was one of the best players on the pitch, that says to me it must of been a shocking match

AKA: Who the fuck are we ?

We waited a long time to see what we thought was the dawning of the MoPo revolution. Our new manifesto was tattooed into the arses of the gooners. Turns out it was just henna die.

Defensively, considering we were missing Lloris & Vertonghen and Walker's brain is always missing, this game wasn't actually a disaster. Burnley seem to cause most teams problems, but apart from one horrible moment handed to Ings in the start of the game, we really didn't allow them much of a sniff of a decent chance. Burnley work their nuts off for each other, press well, are pretty well organised and I can remember a time - even under Jol but for many years before - when we would have been completely fucked over by a team like this. And as fucking painful as that was to watch, we weren't completely fucked over. We still managed 60% of the ball, and before you all tear into me for mentioning this, I know we definitely didn't win the fucking passing, but I merely mention this because it at least demonstrates that somewhere in there there are some crumbs, not of comfort exactly, that wouldn't be the right word, but crumbs of hope…. maybe, for those of us that still remember when even that was a dream.

That's where the good news ends. Because there really was an inordinate amount of very bad shit. The high pressing's gone. Any kind of cohesive pressing has pretty much gone. The tempo went the week after Liverpool. In their stead, the stupidity and fucking carelessness have returned. With a fucking vengeance.

The amount of careless shit we do, as a team, is frightening. I expect daft shit from Walker, it's his fucking raison d'être and we all know Chiriches is footballing Russian Roulette. Then you have Chadli who can't seem to pass the ball 2 yards to someone's feet, Paulinho plodding around like gecko with prolapsed wit gland, Kane playing like Lional Messi with a cement bag tied to each leg and blinkers on. Even Eriksen is now competing with them, wasting several great situations with poor decisions and execution.

I understand that Pochettino hasn't got the perfect squad he'd like maybe. But seriously ? 31 games in and he hasn't managed to figure out that ****s like Chadli, Paulinho & Townsend aren't the solution ? 31 games in and we have had 2 where we looked like a team with an identity, a team who know what their coach wants ? A team who like like a coach with a clear ethos ?

I don't care about not finishing 4th, or 5th. I don't care if the solution isn't Lamela or Dembele either. We've got a 10m creche full of willing fuckers who run all day for a crack at the big time, get them in and give them a chance if others won't listen and carry out their fucking instructions.

I don't care what anyone says (@DaSpurs or Gary fucking Neville) what we needed out there today was not quicker legs. Even Eriksen outsprinted their defence, what we needed was some fucking wit. Someone to just do something intelligent. Like pass the ball into someone's stride, like move into a space where you could be found, and then move again. We need people who think quicker, and are more composed under pressure. Aaron fucking Lennon would not have made that game easier. Believe me. And neither would Townsend - who touched the ball once in ten fucking minutes.

The decisions Pochettino has been making over the last two months have been counter intuitive. They have contributed to a destabilisation of the system he is trying to instil. This in turn effects other individual components. The CM's are put under more pressure, the defence more exposed. And many of those individual components are relatively inexperienced. But even with one or two poor selections, I'm still really disappointed that we don't look more like a team with some kind of identity.

Individual shits and giggles:

Vorm - Did OK.

Walker - Who cares.

Dier - OK

Chriches - After a couple of early trademark over playing fuck ups he was OK.

Rose - Decent.

Mason/Bentaleb - Not great, but asking these two kids play as a CM2 surrounded by half arsed ninnies who don't show enough, press enough, and keep giving the ball away, isn't going to bring out the best in them.

Eriksen - Poor decision to play him right. But that doesn't excuse his continual inability to make a clever through ball count, and he wasted several good situations, including the best chance we had with carelessness and a lack of composure. He worked enough and saw plenty of the ball, but he's got to do more with it. Because if he doesn't, fuck knows who will.

Paulinho - I know he pisses all off us, he is "Meh" incarnate and that shot was so pathetic it was almost funny. But you only have to cast your mind back to the days of people like Poyet and Dozzell to remember what true useless ****s really look like. he needs to go back to the land where women wear fruit hats and football is played to the beat of the snail.

Chadli - A very frustrating player. Frustrating because he very occasionally shows glimpses of something good and productive, but so often just shows lots of annoying lazy, sloppy, careless shite.

Kane - Really poor today. A few times had simple options but chose instead to try and dribble through several people all at once instead or shoot from poor positions.

Good post. Agree with most of that, apart from Paulinho's shot being so pathetic it was almost funny.

I think it transcended the realm of the pathetic, and broke the laugher barrier. If you watch the footage back you can actually hear the loud crack of a nation laughing in unison just as the ball gently taps the advertising board.

It was a great achievement. Surprised he didn't celebrate it by tripping over a corner flag.

Legend.

One massive plus out of that game was hopefully everyone now realises what a humdrum bucket of averageness Ings is, and with a bit of luck will stop saying things like "really hope we sign him" and "he can play anywhere in the front 4" and other such bollocks.

If our back four today can make him look shit, he definitely isn't the player we need to take us to the promised land.

What worries me most is how few chances we created. Same thing last game. This is Poch failing at his job.

Because one game says everything.

I guess Eriksen and Kane are buckets of averageness as well.

I bet Rebic would have scored a double hat-trick though. By the way, he wasn't in the squad for his second division German side today.
