The problem is, we don't have anyone in the 1st team or the academy/development team that is ready (or not out on loan), so this is going to continue to be a problem for the rest of the season.

Personally, for the rest of the season, I would like to see us experiment with the 4 below AM3 line ups with Onomah coming on as sub to play AMC for the games he isn't starting.

Eriksen Lamela Townsend

Townsend Dembele Lamela

Chadli Eriksen Townsend

Eriksen Onomah Lamela

We've seen quite a bit of Chadli-Eriksen-Townsend lately, but I'd add one addendum which is Townsend-Onomah-Lamela. In fact, I'd love to see it against Villa.

Yeah, I don't know why I put that one in.

I've got to admit, it's my favorite. The first option is just to see how Lamela will do at AMC, as I think he would be most effective there, 2nd option is to see if Townsend can stretch the oppo defence playing left and to give Eriksen a rest. 3rd option, I have no idea what I was thinking.

Even the 4th and my favorite option, I'm not happy about the wide players, but it's the best we can do IMO. If we are able to, I think we should recall Oduwa as I would rather him on the left than anyone in the current squad.

The only thing Townsend stretches is my fucking patience.

Thinking about it, just to wind Sherwood up, we should play:

Kane
Onomah Mason Townsend
Bentaleb Winks
Rose Verts Dier Yedlin
Vorm (if Lloris isn't fit)
7 Academy players, 2 of which are making their first starts.

The problem with that is he'll undoubtedly take full credit if we beat him with that lineup.

Players who play as if nothing is at stake should be fucking sold.

Entitled kings we have at Spurs. Different manager, same rot.

I just watched the whole 93 mins of the match for the first time and I have seen us played worse this season.

I'm slightly nervous about enabling any further pace v wit debates but, for @DaSpurs and @Bus-Conductor this article by Michael Cox on the Burnley match is pretty interesting.

It echoes quite a bit of what's been said on here in the past few days.

To be honest (Mrs) BC, that's a pretty lame report. Pochettino has religiously stick with 4231 all season, much to the chagrin of many of us. And the pressing game has not been the main concept of Spurs style under him, we've only really seen it properly twice.

He did say Lamela provided some speed (@DaSpurs ) and directness. Also failed to mention that in his ten minutes on the pitch Townsend touched the ball the grand total of once, which perfectly illustrates my point about quick legs are useless unless they are connected to some wit. This was the same reason Townsend was hooked on 30 mins against ManU. His Invisibility cloak.

Oh yes, the bit about switching between that and 4-3-3 was rubbish. If we were playing 4-3-3 at all I would be a good deal less cranky.

I think the key point I took from it is that there's now a very clear blueprint for taking us on: we currently have no way to counter the aggressive pressing from others that Poch has struggled to implement in us.

Any whiff of stability or composure evaporates as soon we find ourselves under pressure. Burnley were unable to take advantage of it, but Man United and Liverpool were. We exacerbated the problem ourselves through a lack of application and that rather jaded selection but it does again highlight the need for a Plan B to avoid being out-thunk thanks to our own rigidity.

This "getting rattled out of our stride" thing has been going on all season. I've said it so many times, such as here in December:

I don't mind losing like we did away at Anfield, where we at least competed and never gave an inch willingly. There was more merit in that defeat than there has been in many victories this year.

What annoys me immensely is that you hope Pochettino is going to be like Diego Simeone and fuck off anyone who won't at the very least tow the work ethic line, but instead he drops players that work for him and promotes the lazy half arsed fuckwits in their place, which puts a tactical spanner throughout the team. You can't possibly work a tight pressing system when a couple at the front of the pyramid aren't up for it.

Pochettino did some disappointing things for this game.

No CB on the bench at all ?

I'm not Dembele's biggest fan but Paulinho ahead of him at ACM ? Paulinho's overall performance was not captivating but wasn't as meaningless as many have suggested, but surely Dembele might have facilitated us retaining the ball better in their third, without much defensive compromise and he does press better than Paulinho.

Eriksen on the right, out of position. Why not play Lamela there in his strongest position, who had not played international football and has been rested recently, whereas Eriksen had played for Denmark and has barely missed a game for us and sorely needs a rest.

Kane as captain seems like a bit of a populist choice, rather than a logical one. It could have been used to empower one of the other players to raise their game and maybe lead more, (Mason, Rose, Dier for example) Players in a better position to read the game around and ahead of them ?

Fatty (forty) Friedel on the bench not McGee.

Season's over, why not more development guys on the bench.
