I hope people can now see what Pochettinho had to deal with, he worked miracles with this squad.

Levy has to spend good money getting this club in positions to challenge.

In my opinion - and I'm not a doctor but a neuroscientist with a background in medical science - the absence through illness combined with his current physical state on the pitch makes me think of long-term post-viral fatigue.

Whether he's developed a chronic autoimmune dysregulation or metabolic condition as a result is something only a few people will know but it sure looks that way to me. For an elite athlete, a condition like that only has to knock 10 or 20% off their peak fitness for them to become functionally worthless at the top level.

Instead of blaming him, I just feel really sorry for him. If my suspicions are correct, it's entirely possible he'll never be the same player again, no matter how hard he tries. His story will be more of a tragedy than a cautionary tale of sloth.
