I actually thought that was bullshit. There was one game where he was left on and I remember him working harder in the last few minutes than any other player.

Even so, I realise it's a bit sentimental to want him back, but stranger things has happened and when you compare his ability to the likes of Chadli, Siggy, infact all of our current midfielders bar Eriksen you remember how far we have fallen in terms of real quality players, let alone having world class outfield players.

Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool are all able to manage these types of players because they, and their winning mentality, not to mention ability, are central to them achieving success. Where as we just cast them aside and look for the next player who is going to get us success in an instant.
VDV was a bit of a one off in terms of signing a star name. It's not happened all that often.

Ok, so let's say FDB gets the WHL gig, bergkamp has already said he wouldn't come, FDB then throws a player/coach role to VDV, he'd help FDB immensely just from knowing how the clubs run.
Stranger things have happened...
That would be great.

He's turned into a shit player in just two years? Pace and agility have never been a part of his game. He's only just 31 years old. There's no reason he couldn't play a fantastic 'Lampard' type role for us now. Chelsea have Lampard, Man USA had Giggs and Scholes etc etc...

His passing was sublime. I remember an early AVB match he played just before he left (when rumours were hitting critical), he pinged a diagonal pass across the pitch to a players feet that just oozed quality, and garnered cheers and gasps. We finished one point below Arsenal in 2013. I firmly believe with Raf in the team as well as Bale that season - we would've gained more points (through his sickening goal scoring ratio or assists) and when you look at the league table - who knows we could've got 2nd!

Excellent player. Would take him back in heartbeat.

I'd take him back in a heart beat. I don't understand why so many people think we are better than this guy?!?!

He's never had pace, his head is so far ahead of others he will play well into his late thirties.

And on a personal side it could be the signing to really re-connect the team after a season where more than in a long time so many were very apathetic about what was happening on the pitch once AVB got sacked.

I know he's a bit older (albeit the same age as Yaya Toure) and his injury record isn't great (but so's Bale's) but his contract is due to run out soon and it's likely he'll be off.

Head says no but the heart says; lets just give it a go...

One of my favourite ever players. His technique is up there with the very very best.

I can't find the clips, but a stand out memory were two almost identical first time volleyed cross field passes in his last season for us.His forward thinking vision were one of the main reasons why we were able to split teams open as well as we did during that period, and why we struggle now.

Actually whilst we're at it we could also get Sneijder too.

The guy has more talent in his big toe than Siggy has in his whole body.

He's an inspirational figure to the youngsters, he could have a great impact on the likes of Eriksen and Pritchard but we also don't want to block their path to the first team. Rafa could play a deeper role than he did last time though without a problem, doesn't he play deeper for the Dutch national team?

He has the right kind of mentality we need around the place, if we signed him it would be for the same reasons we signed Keane the last time, mainly just to have him around the changing room and youngsters, playing in half the games.

If he is happy to accept he won't start in the league very often and he's only offered a playing role for one season then come home Rafa!

His worth in terms of leadership, desire and winning mentality is badly needed in our squad.

And vdv for 60mins is better than all of our current options bar Eriksen. Just saying!

Yes. Don't even need to think about it. Apart from Lamela and Eriksen, he has more talent than the rest of our midfielders put together.

Hes in the Dutch World Cup squad so they must think he can still perform at that level. Will be interesting to see how much game time he gets.

I loved him at spurs.

I had major man crush for Rafa when he was here, sublime footballer. But he's something of a shot bolt now I'm afraid, and his meltdown when he walloped his wife was disgraceful. He should never have left us really.
