Fans living in England will obviously not like this idea but for fans living around the world it's a great idea and the club's can only benefit with more support.

The Italian and French Super Cup has been played abroad for the last 6 seasons or so.
I could see playing the community shield someplace other than Wembley - if they were looking to play a single game in America or Asia.

If is an extra game, no way it happens...the entire concept of the league is based on everyone playing the exact same schedule. With the NFL, and baseball, and NBA, when they play overseas, it is one of the regularly scheduled games, some team loses a home date to "host" a game overseas. It's not simply an extra game. I assumed the PL would be looking at something similar - where a team like Burnley would give up a home date to play ManUtd in New York for instance, and collect a significantly bigger fee than if they played that game at home.

But with regard to the NFL it's never a divisional game so the team losing a home date aren't losing a key match.

Clubs like Burnley would be mad to let their home fixture against the top five be played overseas. When QPR stayed up in 11-12 they were greatly helped by the fact that they beat Arsenal and Liverpool at home. Staying in the league is worth much more than a one off game overseas.

IMO the only competitive match that should be played overseas is the Community Shield.

Of Course the all the clubs are going to want it, not only that so are their sponsors..

OldTrafford, has a capacity of of what 75k? michigan stadium has 115k, the Birds Nest stadium has 91k, plus tickets would be at a premium, clubs would sell a shit load of merch.
Cant really see Burnley vs Palace selling out.. but a Manchester Derby, NLD, or United vs Pool.. those fixtures would definitely sell out..

Who do you think Burnley would rather give up a home match to - ManUtd or Stoke? If you say ManUtd, you are delusional. Giving up a home match is never ideal, but it is better to give up a match against a team you are less likely to beat, than a mid to lower table team who you really need to beat at home to stay up.

The thing is clubs are already playing pre season games overseas... This just seems like a way for the Premier league to get a cut of the action.

Of course they would give up the Man Utd game but they won't be given that choice. Unless Burnley are playing a top team no one will be interested. Look at the Asia Trophy, Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City have had to go out there to play as the league knew they couldn't sell Birmingham, Bolton, Portsmouth, etc. Going by the last time the PL proposed this the top teams would be prevented from playing each other so the mid to lower table teams will be forced to give up a home fixture, play an additional away fixture just so the top teams can make a bit more money. This would destroy one of the great things about English football - "the league table never lies because everyone's had to play each other home and away, except Burnley who had to play Man Utd away twice."

Not going to happen. Karren Brady has already said the clubs have agreed the matches would not be one regarded as "traditional local derbies".

The world evolves. Trust me when I tell you, if this ever came to pass - which I doubt that it would - everything will be all right.

If it ever happened - the league is going to make sure it preserves the favorites, and the lower teams will suffer, but will make up for it with a financial windfall they otherwise would not get - at the end of the day most owners are greedy, and will take the money over the home game.
