I would say I'm not bothered about polls relying on fan votes, but it's amazing how competitive I get when I simply don't want Bruno Fernandes to win with an 18-yard free-kick. How many double chops do you see served on a plate each season..? ???
I felt the same. I don't normally bother but because of the media presence of some club's fans, it's easy to imagine - as you say, Fernandes or Salah winning it.

Forget all this comparing Ndombele to other players, moving forward every team will be comparing their players to him.

He is incredible, I've said it for a long time as have others in this thread. In terms of pure natural ability nobody touches him in our squad. Not many in the league get close either.

What we are seeing now is him become an athlete, he looks so lean and surprisingly quick. Coupled with the determination and mentality he has shown to turn things around he can do whatever he wants, he is literally too good for most players to stop.

Keep a close watch on pundits/media etc, we have started to see them notice his ability. I expect over the coming weeks and months the media attention on him is going to intensify along with nonsense transfer rumours.

Having seen his second goal again, I had not noticed his first touch on his left foot before his nifty footwork. Absolutely effortless.

Now we all love him how long before the Real Madrid/Barca rumours!

That's the beauty of spending 60 million on a player, the bid from clubs who want him will have to be astronomical and in this climate that is not something readily available.

Considering how fecked both spanish clubs are financially, we might hold onto him for a while at least!

Especially with a contract until 2025, there is no chance that he will leave before 2023. Probably later. Might even become a Spurs legend and stay for a decade, who knows.

Just voted and guess what, Fernandes is winning surprise surprise. Talk about blind faith voting, even the lad who scored for Brighton is nowhere near him!

Like the boy.
Clearly something special from the start.
Could José adapt to a maverick?
Not his specialist subject.
Compromise reached
and Tanguy set for a stellar career
hopefully with us.
Not sure he knows himself
what he's going to do next
so no chance for the opposition.
Boy's a natural,
don't fence him in.
Makes losing Dele
almost acceptable for me.

Comparisons are inevitable, whichever way they're done with this exceptional talent. It's beautiful to watch his turnaround and even better to watch that play out on the pitch with his game. We've got some fucking player on our hands. Long may it continue!

Must admit the Yaya Toure comparison is an interesting one. Another player that was signed as a deep midfielder but ended up being a talisman for them in a more advanced role.

I think we are all in agreement that we want Tanguy in at the number 8 position as much as possible with the squad as it is right now but with his improving goal tally and ridiculous skill set you do wonder if that's where he could truly flourish and elevate the side, especially if we could upgrade our number 8.

It's such a shame we haven't been able to see him and Gio in top form at the same time. You'd like to think both could play in a 3 with Hojbjerg and could really open up our play. Both players confident in taking the ball deep, both capable of bursting past players and both with an eye for goal. Fingers crossed we can see it sooner rather than later. With Kane looking to drop in like a false 9 we should be able to be quite fluid in behind him.

I can't ever go past a post mentioning Yaya without waxing lyrical about him, I think he may be my favourite non-spurs prem player ever. I've not seen anybody do the type of long passes that Yaya did on a regular basis. I think Ndombele has not yet shown the level of the long passing and the brilliant long shots that Yaya could produce. I think where they are similar is the deceptive languid style which seems to suck people in and allows them to evade opposition, also Ndombele has shown that real ability to carry the ball forward without being stopped.

Completely agree that Ndombele is best in the 8 role and the sooner Gio is able to take the place of the role Ndombele has vacated the better. As you say the way Kane plays, having somebody like Gio who is happy to drop deeper at times in that role will be fantastic.

He looks more settled and happier every time he plays now. If he's allowed to make the odd mistake without over the top repercussions I think he'll be a very strong challenger for our player of the season. When he's on the ball you just expect stuff to happen which reminds me of Eriksen in his prime, and that'd something we've been missing way too much of late.

Yep, considering how competitive the league is these days you need your AMs to be comfortable to drop into midfield either to add numbers defensively or to come and collect the ball. You can't afford luxury 10s (Ozil) these days or 10s like Dele that are most effective as a shadow striker in a high pressing side.

Ndombele and Gio both have that skillset, and Gio put up some good numbers in attacking positions for Betis so the toolsets are there. We just need to get Lo Celso fit and firing. He hasn't been right since the first lockdown.

Totally agree on him not yet showing Yaya's shooting ability but he strikes the ball pretty well and is improving his goal output. Granted it was only Wycombe but the way he just completely outclassed them in 22 minutes was Yaya-esque for me. Yaya was playing as a deeper midfielder at Monaco when he was Tanguy's age. He was 27 when he joined Man City and I don't think they foresaw what he'd go on and do for them in an attacking sense.

Tanguy is so talented anything is possible really.

I think because of how City have risen to their elite status so quickly through oil money the likes of Yaya Toure and David Silva never quite get the same recognition they would have got playing for a more established media darling like Utd or Liverpool. Truly elite players.

Would love to see him put in a MOTM performance against Liverpool tomorrow and get EVERYONE talking about him.
Don't be silly, if he stars and we win they'll just talk about "you can't let him do this and do that" and briefly mention Ndombele playing well.

A goal scoring, younger version of Dembele

IMO, he's pretty much the opposite of Dembele in respect of how quickly he uses the ball and how often he looks to get it forward. I suppose the comparisons are inevitable because of the position they play, but in many repects they really are chalk and cheese.

The funny thing about the Dembele talk is that he's exactly what we're missing. Last 2 seasons we missed Wanyama and Dembele. I think Sissoko did a good job but he doesn't screen the defence like Wanyama (or even Dier). Højbjerg made the difference in that regard. Winks is a long way off Dembele level though. I think that's why we're hoping Ndombele can fill that role.

If we had a Dembele though we would get control of midfield and play out rather than more direct. That would give Ndombele a bit more license further forward where he is at his best. This guy will create and score goals from midfield and we've missed that since peak Eriksen. If Winks can go up a level or two and help get control of midfield we can play Ndombele further forward. If not we need Ndombele to play deeper but he won't always get chance to break forward particularly if we're playing a low to mid block.

In the summer I think we need to upgrade on Winks with a proper Dembele/Modric level of player (Skipp and White are too young right now). So I think the comparison with Dembele is pretty pointless because Ndombele needs a Dembele behind him to get the best out of him.

A proper 'bums off seats' player.
Possibly the first since Bale mk1 and Ginola before him?

Or "Ndombele would be a really good buy for Manchester United"
