Having to play full backs at centre back because of poor squad planning over the last few years.
Plus selling Sanchez after the window has shut.

It’s stupid we’ve got ourselves into this predicament, let’s say we lose to United on the weekend because we have no fit CBs and lose out in champions league by 3 points.
All because we’re arguing over a couple of million when the champions league brings millions in the club.

It is less than ideal. But I'm not sure I'd peanut butter resourcing planning with the notion that it has been poor for the last few years. Objectively, we've built a pretty good squad over the last three years: Romero, VdV, Porro, Udogie, Emerson, Vic, Biss, Sarr, Bentancur, Maddison, Kulu, Brennan, Richy, Solomon, Persic. Where we have left ourselves in a clear predicament is CB. It looks very bad now, given we basically got rid of two CBs while we still had a chance to get money for them. (Rodon's performances for Leeds will lead to a pretty good fee once sold). And we were left with VdV, Romero, Dier, and (in a pinch) Davies. Little did we know that Ange would flat out refuse to play Dier, effecitvely leaving us with 2 CBs. But outside of that screw up, I don't see a current squad that reflect three years of poor squad planning. Quite the opposite.

I'm still trying to remain glass-half-full on this. Hoping it'll get completed by mid-week. Probably not in time for United. But if we can get the man Ange wants, despite it dragging out a 7 to 10 days longer than expected, that's all that matters.
