I do not think Hjobjerg will sit deep, in front of the back 4 - he is all about perpetual motion and being where the ball is.

Yeah, I never expected winks to push forward, it just takes the burden of him having to do most the defensive duties when playing with Sissoko. PEH will sit and break things up (and play the ball if needed) and winks will play as the deep playing playmaker.... Like what modric would do I guess.

Winks fanboys do not appreciate Sissokos efforts, the ground he covers, tackles he makes, the obstruction to the opposition he represents. Blame it on Moussa. I don’t agree with that at all, just like when a few muppets suggested Dembele didn’t win tackles according to the stattos. He was a wall.

I agree Moussa is pretty dire on the ball and we should take any decent offer that might come in this window. But Winks shortcomings will remain.

Don't think you can leap to a conclusion like that from one pre season game against totally crap opponents. Hojbjerg is very good at being proactive in winning the ball back and on this occasion further up the pitch was very effective.

what? Your comment has nothing to do with what I said. PEH didn’t play DCM for Soton and he won’t for us. Winks will remain Winks.

That highlights video misses out one of the things that impressed me most, which was his positioning and his pressing. The best word to describe him would be disruptive. He completely cut out and prevented a bunch of moves without doing anything that would show up in highlight videos or on stat lines. However, we do obviously have to wait and see against better opposition.

I agree with the sentiment, Winks is not a starting 11 CM for a club with our aspirations and i'd much rather have the power of Sissoko coming on from the bench against tired opposition, due to his discipline and being more of a pain in the arse to play against than Winks.

If Winks wasn't from our academy, people wouldn't be so blind at how average he is. I've said it a million times, if we started against a team that had Winks in their CM, i'd be rubbing my hands together. He's okay, that's it. Should possibly be a squad player for us, if 40m to City is an actual thing, it's hilarious anyone would turn that down.

I'm so happy to have PEH here, 3m net on him will be one of the deals of the summer. He is a massive upgrade to what we currently have, leader and a intelligent player.

To be fair, I think it's more that Sissoko has to cover RB at times leaving winks to cover his and Sissoko's space in CM.

If I picked a starting 11 I don't think winks would be in there, but is better player when he has someone who stays CM with him.

This will be a big season for winks, he either kicks on and becomes our metronome or he'll dissolve back into the larger squad. Højbjerg gives him a capable partner, something he hasn't had in the last 2 seasons.

Højbjerg is also able to actually win the ball back, so losing it isn't as criminal anymore. Should help our players to play with the handbrake off hopefully

I think it depends on who we are playing.
Against Ipswich Sissoko's strengths are pretty much redundant whereas if it was someone like Liverpool/City I would have him in every time over Winks.

Ideally, we want someone who's a hybrid of the two, I like the look of that Sabitzer who we are linked to. And even then I wouldn't sell them as they have always both given 100% for the club and are both as good as we'll get for rotation/back-up. I'd rather move Ndombele on who has given very little for us (unless there's a dramatic change in him in pre-season).

I'd keep him. He'd be a good 80-85 minute sub to help keep hold of the ball when we're under pressure with a narrow lead.
Sissoko would be a good sub in an open game when you’ve decided to go fuck it we’re sending it, we need someone good in transition. Keeping hold of the ball though? Not sure about that one

I think it shows how poor we have been at DM and CM that an above average player like him can come it and make us go "Wow a tackle in CM!". Really poor transfers from Levy and Poch these past few years.

I know but he had lost his place.
Absolute nonsense. He got injured against Arsenal in June, which meant he missed the next 2 games. After his injury he started one out the last four games but Southampton were in good form and he made it clear he wanted to leave. Hassenhuttl was instructed to leave Hojbjerg out the squad for the last game as well.

He started nearly every game for Southampton in all competitions last season when he was fit.

So he lost his place at the end of the season....

Look i think he's a good signing, go back if you want I defended it.

Just not an exciting signing. Not one that screams " were ambitious and want to win things." No it screams we don't want to spend a lot of money and hes coming to the end of his deal.

It might well not be an exciting signing but he's a good player and filling a hole in our team that has been a problem for a long time.

Let's hope so.

I know he fills a position were in need of but is he as good as a rodri or fabhinio? Thats where we want to be right?

If i gave you a choice before this between him and partey which would you choose? Bearing in mind there is a good chance the scum get the latter.

Only time will tell on that scenario but with JM I think we'll find out. I certainly like his attitude and the way he talks about the game. His first appearance wasn't too bad was it? Admitting the standard of the opposition.
