Thanks for that link. I didn't watch the game but was most interesting in seeing how our new guy did. I know it's Ipswich and they're pretty shite but he looked really tidy from that video.

He really reminds of Scott Parker. Same kind of simple and effective style of football. Hounds players, not afraid to get stuck in but doesn't make rash tackles. Intercepts the ball and reads play well. He looks up when he has the ball at his feet so he can spot a pass, and will move as soon as he's made it. He doesn't keep the ball for too long either or try to take on loads of players, so he knows his strengths and weakness. Incredibly similar to Parker's style of play, just less pirouettes .

We've really needed that sort of player for ages now. Wanyama and Dier did it a while back, but the former got crocked and lost his powers just like Sandro did, and the latter just completely dipped in form and always struggled with his movement and agility to play that role as effectively. He will be the guy to allow the likes of Winks, Lo Celso and Alli to play football in the middle of the pitch.

Apart from a flick on header and a cross headed out for a corner he gave the ball away zero times in the 1st half. Gonna watch the 2nd now ?

I know it's one preseason game against shit opposition but he is such an upgrade on Sissoko. Seriously different class and wants the ball.

Winks looks happy as well and won't get pressed as much if we have both players comfortable on the ball and showing for it we won't get overwhelmed.

His pressing and interceptions will stop teams dominating us. This guy will be huge for us this season.

The most interesting aspect of his role yesterday was his position, alongside Winks - not deeper than - Winks did not do anything differently compared to when he plays with Sissoko.

The first definitive piece of evidence that those who think Winks will play 8 and be involved further up the pitch as a result of PEHs arrival are mistaken.

Yeah, I never expected winks to push forward, it just takes the burden of him having to do most the defensive duties when playing with Sissoko. PEH will sit and break things up (and play the ball if needed) and winks will play as the deep playing playmaker.... Like what modric would do I guess.

Don't think you can leap to a conclusion like that from one pre season game against totally crap opponents. Hojbjerg is very good at being proactive in winning the ball back and on this occasion further up the pitch was very effective.
