This is an absolute monstrosity.

One little-remarked-upon characteristic of Højbjerg is that his mother's family are French, that he is fluent in French and that, when he first went to Bayern, he used to hang around with the French speakers (Ribery, Van Buyten et al) as no other bugger spoke Danish. There's a reason why he's called Pierre-Emile, which isn't what you'd call a standard Danish name.

Now I'm not saying that this will necessarily endear him to TN or make them a well-matched midfield pairing, but having a common language and shared cultural norms surely has to help.

At the very least, the fact that PEH knows the French for 'put a fucking shift in, fat boy, or I'll rip your gizzards out' must be a useful back-up plan.

You do realise that Sissoko who played in the same position when playing with Ndombele speaks fluent French, and it didnt make a bit of difference!

This. Have commented on it before, but it remains one of the most incredible replacement decisions I have seen in Spurs' recent recruitment history. It is genuinely difficult to think of a bigger contrast in the respective capabilities of an outgoing and incoming player for the same position. Does anyone know if it was ever raised internally at the club? ie. What was the scouting report like?

Not only did it totally unbalance our side it ruined Jenas’ career. With Carrick he had a super partnership and knew he could bomb on and Carrick would sit and fill the gaps. With Zokora he lost all confidence in getting forward because the former was so bad at reading the play and making decisions so Jenas became a deeper player and decidedly less effective.

As I can't make a comment on his play as I have only seen bits and pieces and the games I have seen he has hardly stood out .
Regardless what stands out for me having listened to him speaking about this move is that he really wants this move compared to most of the players that come to us that seem to think they are doing us a favour by coming here.
