It does seem bizarre to be shipping him off to Turkey, I'm sure we could find him a suitor in London (Fulham or QPR if not Palace or Brentford), let alone England.

Like many others I find it very odd that we can't get a domestic loan for an England U21 international

I agree Turkey seems an odd choice, can only think it's a case of getting a good loan fee and perhaps we feel he needs to leave the comforts of home for a bit to mature; I mean you only have to look at Dele discovering how to make beans on toast on his own to see perhaps there's a certain immaturity with some of the younger players.

Another theory could be to do with recovering from his injuries; perhaps we feel he needs to play through them a bit but getting the snot booted out of him in an English league perhaps isn't a good plan for his recovery right now.

The other thing is how many lower EPL or upper championship clubs can afford to gamble on a young CB right now? I mean every £ they earn in prize money could be vital to some of them keeping the lights on after last year!

He seems a good lad; had a high profile start but that means you've further to fall and you're perhaps unfairly judged if you have a duff game.

I've no knowledge of Turkish football though. Good luck to him.

Needs to happen. Being able to play anywhere across the back can be a curse as well as an attribute. Needs to specialise.

in what world is Doherty a better rotation option at RB--assuming we get Tomiyasu in--than Japhet? Hope we are rethinking the loan.

He did well today and played a major part in our goal. Sadly he went off injured near the end. If only he could keep fit he would be a very good back up right back and arguably could start against City.

Didn’t watch the game. Did he get injured? Did it look bad?
The camera didn't pan to him after he went off, but the commentator said he was moving OK. Hopefully either fatigue or a minor knock.

Would rather make some money selling Doherty and Aurier rather than loan him out
Completely agree. Doherty has never once (at Spurs) put in a performance as good as we’ve seen from Tanganga at fullback on a number of occasions, and not just in preseason. Tanganga should clearly be first-choice RB ahead of Doherty.

I’ve yet to see a single reason Doherty should not be sold and have this lad as back up. I know I sound like a broken record but Doherty really is absolutely shocking and we need to get rid while he still has some value

Tanganga should be first choice RB (until we sign Tomiyasu). Definitely should be ahead of Doherty and Aurier.

He’s a RB. Just call time on the CB experiment and play him out there. Miles better than Doherty.
