Absolutely spot on.

I love the way Levy controls the finances of the club and have total confidence in him not doing a Leeds, but if it’s true that our spending on players hasn’t been too affect by the stadium cost then we should have funds to spend.

I’m convinced that our lack of transfer activity has less to do with lack of funds but more to do with the inflexible negotiation strategy Levy employs, cutting off his nose to spite his face time after time.

That’s worrying as it probably won’t improve as revenues increase, hence Poch stating how we need to do things ‘differently’. Poor sod, must feel like banging his head against a brick wall every TW.

A leopard never changes his spots. Levy gets a buzz out of negotiating and wants to win every single time. The so called best negotiators are also the ones that miss the biggest opportunities.

I think its clear from the media reports and the silence from the ITK that all the positivity and potential is now falling apart once again.

This is now looking like it wont get done.

The tweet says:

@MikeKeegan_DM

We asked Pochettino about transfers. He wasn't happy: 'Maybe the club need to change my title. My job is to coach the team - it's not a question for me its one for the club...it's not in my hands.'

-------

It looks to me as if the reply has been reworded and taken out of context by Mike(?) a Daily Mail Sports News Reporter and Sports Agenda columnist.

From Poch's post match press conference:

In the past you've said there's a difference between being a coach and a manager and the way transfers are not your responsibility, would you like them to be your responsibility?

"The club need to change my title and description, no? My job now is to coach the team. It's not a question for me, it's a question for the club and maybe they change my title and description. I told you before I am not in charge about the individual situations. Of course I am the boss deciding the strategic play, training, mentology and philosophy are my areas, but in another area I don't know. Today, I feel like I am the coach."

Why has this changed?

"I cannot answer, it's not me. I am only the person that is on the touchline managing the team. The question is not for me and I do not have answer. I tell you what is my responsibility."

Surely the manager must have some say in which players arrive and which stay?

"It's difficult to talk like this but I think it's not in my hands. Only I describe the situation of what happens and I think it's important for the players and people to know that I am going to be, like I told you before, that I will be happy with the squad that the club are going to provide to me. Of course we will give our best. My mood is always the same and my emotional balance is always similar. I am emotional, but I am a person like everyone that thinks a lot. Only I describe the situation to make clear that if you have some question that I am not the person that is going to answer what you want."

A reporter from the Daily Mail taking a quote out of contexts for retweets and clicks? No chance.

Wonder what all the happy clappers are going to say when poch inevitably walks at his next opportunity due to lack of backing and the club changing mentality and the ways it does dealings like he kept mentioning at the end of the season
“No one man is bigger than the club”

I'll reserve judgement until the end of the window.

It is easy to forget we've signed Ndombele, early in the window, and he's got a full preseason under his belt. That's a massive win for us because he looks brilliant, and a new midfielder was the majority of our number one priorities this summer.

We've already been told not to expect all the positions that need addressing to be sorted in one window (our own fault for not signing anyone in 10 about years)...

I still expect us to sign Lo Celso, but can see us not signing Sessengon (annoyingly) because we haven't managed to move Rose on.
And let’s hope we don’t sell Rose. Why would a top club sell a top player to a rival?

So you don't think some of the negativity is justified mate? We lost over Twenty games last season, you can't just blame that on a World Cup hangover. Our squad proved to be not good enough and we barely scraped Top 4. N'Dombele looks a beast but is a straight swap for Dembele which was always needed. We need new players, it's as simple as that. Our squad was depleted last year and we've lost Tripps, Vorm & Llorente meaning we're currently weaker in terms of numbers. If we don't sign anybody else, it'll be absolutely criminal given the stadium is finished, we announced record profits last year, made nearly £100 million from the Champions league alone and also recently announced our biggest ever kit deal with AIA. Only so much you can penny pinch and try and develop players! Over to you Levy boy ?

Sorry, I didn't realise the window shut in July this year, my bad.
And yes I agree, we lost too many games last year, what a disastrous season it was

Are you fucking serious?

Given the responses of Poch in recent days in press conferences, would not surprise me if a failing to do this deal is the final nail for him and the club. He is obviously angry.

Ally Gold.

I thought Poch was a little tough the other day in responding to my Alderweireld question the way he did. Today he slapped down poor @RobGuesty for simply suggesting Erik Lamela looked sharp. The Spurs boss is not a happy bunny.
As a long time member of Sc I remember Allly being a quality poster back in the day,but i have to say that much of what he writes now is typical poor quality click bait.

He also presents alot of his opinion/speculation as fact.

It's his job, i just dont give as much weight to his words as I once did.

Apart from that, these so-called journalists are a pain in the arse. They ask stupid questions so that they can produce headlines like "Report: 30 year old premier league player wanted out by spurs boss". They defended the way that Jo Konta was questioned after her defeat at Wimbledon for example which was disrespectful at best. If I was poch, I wouldnt even give an interview!

Not a fan of sports journalists at all, for the most part at least.

Fucking hell the kids are out in force tonight.

A non renewal on a ticket because of transfers, Danny Rose in the Le Celso thread and a tweet so far out of context to fit a narrative Miss Marple would have a hard time trying to piece it all together.

I look forward to even half of the current posters posting in threads once this window shuts ... Be lucky to see five of you.

The argument that you can’t always add a few million more if people ask for more in deals only works to a point. Our squad went stale 2 years ago. Our coach has worked miracles to drag them as far he did in the CL but our PL form told you all you needed to know. If we have sat down and discussed 3 players who could help us refresh the squad and challenge, then we have to be realistic and pay a premium in some instances. Liverpool understood this and splashed and it bought them a CL victory and running City far closer than anyone would have believed. We are capable, we just have to know when to stick and when to twist.

The key point for me is that we have been prudent for years, it hasn’t changed anyone’s approach to negotiating with us. We still get fucked about. So why do we suddenly believe stumping up the cash once is going irrevocably change all deals.

I see your point, but I think the whole 3rd and 4th choice options being Championship standard is blown a bit out of proportion.

The reality is we had players in the squad from last season that can easily be improved upon. Dier, Wanyama, Trippier, Aurier, Llorente, Janssen, GKN.

There's plenty of footballers out there who are far better than those that we have, even if they aren't top of the list.

Last season, Andre Gomes was a good example. Tielemans also. A much better option than Dier and Wanyama even though he was clearly not a first choice target. Playing every week for Everton and Leicester Gomes and Tielemans are hardly in the Janssen & GKN bracket. The truth is I see the point about not signing plan Bs, but imo the biggest reason why we continue to be trophy less despite the quality first XI and elite mentality is because we can't compete on multiple fronts because there are huge gaps in the squad time and time again.

Sometimes, we need to think a little bit more short and medium term rather than just the long term.

Tielemans and Gomes are not the same kind of player as Dier and Wanyama who are proper defensive midfielders... for what it's worth I would have taken Tielemans 100% but not Gomez

If united or Madrid waited until the summer for poch he would have been gone already ?

I didn’t realise you knew Pochettino personally, my mistake. What’s his favourite colour?

None of us know a damn thing either way and while everyone and anyone is entitled to be pissed off if they think we need more strengthening that is likely to happen, presenting baseless opinion (and it is baseless, because to have a basis it would need at least a smidgeon of supportive tangible evidence) as fact is neither constructive nor likely to make a blind bit of difference.

And this well known member will still be here. I did not say anything about not renewing due to signings because the window wasnt even open then....numpty.

But i will speak up regardless of it being against the grain.
