Fair enough, imo we still need a young keeper this summer to be 2nd choice.
Pretty much this.

Foster appears to be a good influence/pro in the dressing room but a polar opposite keeper to what Vicario is and how we actively build out from the back.

I wouldn't say he's the 'polar opposite'. He's pretty decent with his feet as we saw when he stepped in for Lloris and on his day he's a formidable keeper. As a Backup I think he's pretty good. I'd rather have him than Raya or Ramsdale.

Assuming in the context of additional outlay as clearly Raya and Ramsdale are superior keepers.

Wonder if this means we've found a move for Hugo in January and wanted to nail down our other senior 'keeper.
Nah, he was the number 2 regardless is happy to be so and is HG, so it makes a lot of sense. I'm expecting Hugo to see out his contract and then retire personally. He's finished as a number 1 in any of the big leagues, and he wouldn't/shouldn't settle as a number 2, as he's had too distinguished a career for that imo.

What about Austin? Seems to be making the bench so I wonder if Forster is helping him be ready. Having him around must have a great influence on him. He's 24 now so it's got to happen soon or never. Maybe he will get an appearance off the bench in the FA Cup.

Surely MLS would be a good destination for Lloris

Mad how Hugo was in his second World Cup final less than a year ago. What happened?

Decent experience no.2 though not a good profile fit for a ball playing Sweeper Keeper.

We will have a club trained quota issue if we replace Austin with Forster (or any non club trained GK) as no.3

Realistically the market for homegrown Sweeper Keepers where good enough and content as no.2s is small to non existent, so difficult to upgrade as a homegrown.

I can only think of maybe Muric at Burnley?

Perhaps the view is to keep Forster and invest in Keeley, Gunter, rather than use up a foreign space and £10-20m on this role.

What profile of goalie is Austin?
