Absolutely agree. I'd 100% be looking to keep him at the club. He looks a very likable person around the squad, he's always fit and available (not to be sniffed at at our club), he has an abundance of energy and he always gives his all. Sure his crossing is still pretty poor but other aspects of his game (off ball running, how he comes inside to join midfield) have all improved and that is a big feather in his cap. I'd also say how well he's handled being booed by his own fans, that must be a horrible experience but he hasn't wilted , if anything he's tried even harder. I always stuck up for Sissoko so i'm hoping Emerson can have a similar redemption story.

Same here, I defended Sissoko all the time and have done the same with Emerson. There is a reason Conte is picking him
Now I wont have to listen to get Doherty or Spence every 5 mins..I feel it will get worse for Royal tho

I think the Porro move will help Emerson in the short term. It’ll take some of the heat off him from the Spurs fans because Porro will be the guy. He’ll have a role as a defensive specialist which is definitely going to be useful in certain situations and something which is more than capable of doing.

He’s a likeable guy and I can see him having a sissoko-esque transformation to a bit of a cult hero status.

Yes totally agree with you. He's just never going to have that offensive output. When he plays simple or if needed defensively he definitely does enough and gives 100%. I have the same hope.

I think many here have short term memories of his performance. Just look back this thread and see how underwhelming and atrocious at times he has been for most part of his games for us.

Definitely not condoning the abuses he has had, but I just feel many are giving him the sympathy points because of that and are looking at him with that in mind more than what he is really doing. Let's not kid ourselves how far he is from the level of standard we hope a RWB should be, who Doherty is so much better at, from the threats he produced and better link up plays he has had with Kulu.

Anyway, Doherty has left and we are only left with Emerson and Porro, I can only hope for the best and look forward to better performance from him towards the 2nd half like last season. Signing Porro gave me hope for the RWB position, but I can't lie that Emerson staying out of the 3 RWBs we supposedly have cut that short. I can't even fathom how he is viewed as better defensively by some of you when opponents had specifically attacked down his side with ease so frequently..

Assuming you watched Doherty’s atrocious performances when he played. Most were saying he’s not fit to wear the shirt. Then had a slight upturn in perfromances.
Emerson is a far better player in my opinion and it seems the opinion of the manager.

Not entirely. Ally G (I think it was him) posted that we were looking to ship Emerson off to Athletico Madrid instead of Doherty but it was Emerson himself who wanted to stay. Besides, being better than Doherty is a very low bar, IMNO, and not something to cheer about. The love for mediocrity by some of the fans is commendable but sometimes odd to fathom. I'm not condoning any personal abuse; Emerson seems like a thoroughly decent chap, but let's not ignore that he's been poor for a very long time and is not the Maldini-esque (exaggerating for effect) fullback some like to make out.

He’s a lot better than the drivel posted in match day threads about him.
He is actually improving in my opinion, he is still young. People just jump on the band wagon as he is this season’s scapegoat.
The wing back on the left has been and is far worse yet gets a free pass Most of the time.

I can't claim to know what the drivel it is you're referring to, but overall, I would say this forum has a varied opinion on him, and many are even-handed. I don't think he is improving. He's just as bad as he was last season. He had two competent games recently and that was enough for some people to forget all his prior bad performances. Who are you talking about regarding the wingback on the right? That's been Emerson for the majority of games. Do you mean Doherty? If so, he's a player that absolutely hasn't been given a free pass. Or did you mean someone on the left?
