Tottenham are trying to negotiate a deal for Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The Brazilian, who was at Real Betis for three seasons until this summer, is wanted to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s defensive options and the club are also in the market for a striker.

Spurs are still trying to offload fringe players after selling Moussa Sissoko to Watford. Finding a buyer for Serge Aurier would help the deal for Emerson.
Emerson, 22, arrived at Barca in 2019 and was loaned to Betis before an option to bring him back to the Nou Camp was triggered this summer. Spurs have been exploring whether he is available on an initial loan.

Japhet Tanganga has started the season for Nuno at right-back but the Spurs head coach would welcome competition, with Aurier deemed surplus to requirements. The club negotiated a deal for Toby Alderweireld to leave as their back line gets reshaped, with Cristian Romero coming in.

Emerson was a regular for Manuel Pellegrini last season and helped Betis reach the Europa League, providing 10 assists in the process.

I would actually prefer him to Tomiyasu as he's a lot better going forward.

We could then have Tanganga and Emerson rotating at RB.

We were first linked with him last summer and then at the beginning of this. Maybe a Hitchen suggestion rather than Paratici’s perhaps?

Hope this means we have found takers for Doherty & Serge. Better option than Tomiyasu, IMO. If Barca are desperate for funds, then Paratici could work his magic.

My opinion is set firmly in the 'never seen them but they play for Barca so must be good' camp

This would be excellent.

Also wonder if it's linked to Traore. Emerson isn't as much of a defensive option as Tomiyasu/Tanganga so perhaps we've ditched the lopsided formation idea since failing to get Traore wide on that right hand side and now we want a more offensive RB to provide the width.

Wouldn't be unhappy with that. Him and Romero would be a super aggressive right hand side.

That came out of nowhere
There was some links in Spain at the start of the window nobody backed up and immediately disappeared into the abyss but yeah this is an interesting popup.

What are Barca’s current RB options? Do they have availability?

I love a bolt from the blue...

Maybe a RWB option for when we are three at the back. I think a sensible option, so we have options of solid FB in Davies and Tanganga with Regi/Sess and Emerson as WB.

Lets go for all the Barcelona options... Griezeman, Pedri etc...
