Can't say I'm a fan and would prefer Doc to play. However he has done well over the last 2 games, so credit where its due.
I gave up on Doc after the NLD, what is the point of a wing back who doesn't cross and cuts back - Royal has his limitations but is a better defender and plays with his heart on his sleeve ............... we need an upgrade though

Keep him , get rid of Doherty. Doherty is terrible , had 6 half decent games and all of a sudden our RWB position is sorted.

Probably similar amount of half decent games than Emerson.

Fair play to Emerson for our last two games, lets see if he can keep it up...

I kind of agree with this. Emerson plays well when we need to defend and we know he's better suited as a RB – also I love the controlled chaos he brings. Doherty is just not a good RWB and a terrible RB. For me, if one goes, it would be him.

Brilliant? Superb? MOTM? Fantastic? :wideyed:

So the absence of really bad mistakes that leads to goals against us => international superclass? Are you all so starved for quality from him and/or that position?!?

I will never fault ER for his effort. He usually works his socks off. But, as we all know: it is quite possible to work really hard and at the same time not be very good nor effective (Vincent Janssen says hi).

Royal is, to put it nicely, not a very smart footballer. His positioning is sub par for a club fighting for a top 4 spot. And even though he didn´t make any obvious blunders, brainfarts or rash actions that cost us in the last two previous matches: that doesn´t make his performance superhuman. In any way or form. He was solid defensively. That´s it.

And even though he didn´t gift any goals away, he doesn´t make the defence as a whole look like a strong, impregnable unit. He stretches the RCD to his side and thus making space through the middle too often. His pressing and tackling further up the pitch leaves you wanting for (far!) more - way too often his timing is off and he´s easily overrun and out of position, stretching the central 3.

Yes, he scored against City. But he is still far, far below what could and should be expected from him when it comes to attacking contribution. His crossing is simply horrendous. To be a professional footballer and be so bad at kicking a ball is baffling.

I´m all for giving young players a chance to improve and develop. He is 24. He´s not a "young talent" - he should be in his early prime. Rico Lewis @ Man City turned 18 in late November: who was the better of those two last Thursday? Reece James is 11 months younger than ER - which one would you pick if you could? Trent Alexander-Arnold is less than a year older - would you swap ER for him? What about a 24 yo Kyle Walker? Hakimi is 2 months older than Emerson: would you rather keep the latter if you could choose between the two, because he has more talent?

Emerson Royal will never, ever become anything more than a decent footballer. He would most likely be far better in La Liga, Serie A or Ligue 1 than in the PL (his stats for Real Betis was quite good tbf). We should definitively seek someone better in his position, irrespectively of which system we play with 4 or 5 at the back.

He wasn't brilliant or superb. He was however the only player that actually looked like they gave a shit at times. He was vastly improved than of late and if Kane hadnt scored was easily MOTM. Give him a break ffs , I swear people these days just love watching others fail

It's easy to get carried away by our latest game. Still think our best games games under Conte have mainly been with Doc playing. Yes Emerson was decent yesterday but he is so clueless as to what to do with the ball. No matter how defensive a system we play this is a big issue for a RWB. He helped us a lot yesterday so fair play to the lad. I just don't subscibe to the theory that one defensive wing back in the squad is useful for certain games. All wing backs shouldn't be liabilities at either end of the pitch.

If we keep with Wing backs then Doherty is a much better player. Emerson has had 2 games where he defended well. Still waiting for him to put any sort of cross in or beat a player.

If we get Porro in I really don't care which one of Emerson or Doherty gets the heave ho. Neither of them is well suited to the way we play.

Better when he moves to midfield than out wide since he can't cross or dribble. One of the few players that doesn't look tired after 15 minutes, love his energy.

Yeah I found it very interesting the way he was joining the attack as an inside right, like an inverted wing back but a lot more advanced to what citeh and Arsenal do.

I really feel these guys need to be so much more fluid especially when we have a midfield 2 being marked tightly in the build up.

why can`t people give the guy a break in my view was our best player last night.. He has his limitations but back end of last season and last night he played very well.. If he played like that every week he would deserve to stay in the squad and be involved in rotation..

Bang on. And also yet another signing from Paratici where he’s not really got it wrong considering he was signed as a RB, he’s slowly adapting to RWB well now.

Dont think I can think of any signings that Paratici has made at all where they’ve been real disasters tbh, it’s really impressive

Turn my guy into Joelintin 2.0. The midfield beast to run up and down the pitch all game long.

Absolutely agree. I'd 100% be looking to keep him at the club. He looks a very likable person around the squad, he's always fit and available (not to be sniffed at at our club), he has an abundance of energy and he always gives his all. Sure his crossing is still pretty poor but other aspects of his game (off ball running, how he comes inside to join midfield) have all improved and that is a big feather in his cap. I'd also say how well he's handled being booed by his own fans, that must be a horrible experience but he hasn't wilted , if anything he's tried even harder. I always stuck up for Sissoko so i'm hoping Emerson can have a similar redemption story.

Well he can't cross so it is pointless him going up the wing when he has kulu in front of him who can. All credit to him getting in the box - his goals have been pretty ugly, but they all count.
Doherty looks the more natural finisher but also cant cross. He too should play inside right.
Alternatively we play 4 at the back and have a genuine inside right.
