I went through a very odd and desperate period of thinking Jamie O'Hara was half decent for about 2 months when he played for us. ? Then again I thought teemu tainio was quality, which probably tells you how low the standard was back then. This is something else for the boo boys to think about when they're abusing Emerson royal for the crime of 'not being that good'.
Jason Cundy was beyond poor for us, another one who like to go round calling out players like he was Beckenbauer.

Jason Dozzell, Teemu Tainio, Mabizella, Tremazzani, Jon Scales, Dean Richards, Toda, Rodrigo Defendi. All straight off the top of my head and all much worse than Emerson who gives his all every game.

Tainio got cult status after what he did in the 2008 league cup final.

This is a list of rbs (or those who have played rb) I can remember through the ages:

Gary Stevens
Mitchell Thomas
Terry Fenwick
Dean Austin
Stephen Carr
Paul Staltieri
Stephen Kelly
Pascal Chimbonda
Alan Hutton
Vedran Corluka
Kyle Walker

There are others. Aside from the odd exception, It has hardly been a rich vein of talent. Idk. Maybe the bigger issue is that there is something wrong with the recruitment? Actually, we know there is, or has been, a problem with the recruitment. Not just in this position either. I am taking comfort from the fact that we now seem to have people who know what they are doing in this area. Hopefully in Jan but next Summer if not.

Constant change of managers does not help. You buy a player for a specific system (back four and fullbacks) and then a manager comes in who plays with wingbacks in a back five, or vice versa. Emerson is a FB in a four kind of player who is being played in a back five as a WB. Doherty was the opposite.

I loved Teemu always injured but he was a 110 percent

you missed SA, and Kyle Naughton off the list, i am sure we had a few academy players as well

Agree. I guess we would look for someone who plays a similar formation if Conte does leave, unless the noob manager was confident of converting the wbs into fbs. Also remember we had Rose and Walker as first choice fbs under Poch, with Davies and Tripper as back ups. It kind of worked, but always wondered wtf we were doing as respective profiles were so different.

i do wonder if Sanchez and Emmerson felt they had unconditional support and love from the fans how much better they would be?

lets be honest we have all told a lot of women, we love them and how beautiful they are to get the right result ;)

football grounds are just full of anger and frustration, its people escape and sadly it's taken out on the players

He's off the ball movement is superb.

It's an important intangible that football illiterates don't understand.
I actually agree with this offensively his off the ball movement is great. Unfortunately everyone we play against has now realised movement is all it is and they just let him have the ball in the attacking third as they know he is the least likely to do anything with it. Likewise when we are playing out of a press he is allowed to have it in our half then they rush in on him knowing he won't be able to beat the press. He's not a terrible defender and works hard but he is a terrible wing back which is unfortunately where he plays for us. Maybe time to try him at RCB when Romero is unavailable as he cant do any worse than sanchez.

I thought teemu was ok, toda defendi from memory hardly played
I do not understand the booing of players or the constant booing at half time, how in earth does it help
I don't rate Emerson as a wing back and frustrated that Conte doesn't play two players like Spence and Doherty that are eminently more suited, especially when wing backs being creative is so important to his system, at least give Spence a game to see, I don't see how he can be less effective, think a lot of it is conte not trusting the keeper or defence but still feel we would gain more attacking than we would lose defensively

Sometimes managers get it wrong Trix, i think it is fair to question some of the selections.

I do not agree with booing but I referenced the sarcastic cheers as some sort of message to Conte to give someone else an opportunity.

How ironic that the boos and cheers come when Conte is actually taking him off.

I don't forget though, I don't forget Royal was part of the team that got us top 4 last season.

I don't forget how we perform when Emerson hasn't started.

I thought Stephen Carr was brilliant, Mr consistency.

I also remember Kyle Walker's final ball not being the best.

at this point it's more bizarre than ever that we haven't seen Spence. Spence being at the club is why people are so frustrated with Emerson playing and it is 100% wrong for fans to treat a player the way they did on Saturday but having other options we spent money to acquire and just persisting with a clearly struggling player instead is why the frustration has boiled over to this level. Conte genuinely has nothing to lose in playing Spence he either has a shocker and then the pressure eases on Royal or he has a blinder and we have a new RWB who suits the system better. I can't help but feel Conte is digging his heels in because he is stubborn and determined for Royal to prove people wrong here but it's not doing the player any favors the longer it goes on without any signs of improved end product.

I've mentioned this before but I've met JOH a few times. Nice guy, but as thick as two short planks.

Talksport is what it is though, and they've taken brainless punditry to new levels with JOH and Agbonlahor. Their opinions are pretty much void when their mouths open.
Yea between JOH and Gabby.A there is about 1 braincell there but they mean well and JOH especially is Spurs through and through but he's an emotional fella too.

Poor lad haven't even bothered to post something on his SoMe accounts which he always do after a game.

I just don't want to think about how much abuse he is getting online. I actually feel sorry for him. <3
