To be honest, this leaves a bad taste. It always leaves a bad taste. The booing in the ground is one thing, but the way our players get abused on here, the massive over emphasis on even the smallest mistake, calling something an error when it isn't just to add to the charge sheet, ignoring any positives and how keen people are to attach unfair blame and go way over the top with it, is a fucking joke. But add the spite and abuse then the whole place just feels toxic.

And I'm talking about every player the hive decides to scapegoat here, not just Emerson and overall, it has been getting worse. It takes on a life of it's own and it gets out of hand to the point where anything at all positive is just ignored and any negative is made out to be a heinous crime, it's not acceptable in any sense and on our own? Is that really what passes for support these days?

Now I don't care wether someone thinks he's not good enough, not as bad as people make out or the lazy but popular 'worst player i've seen at Spurs' but the ridicule and vitriol aimed at our own players, by our own fans, is, quite frankly, childish and pathetic. It's about time people started posting like sensible grown ups and put the vitriol and hyperbole to one side. SC would be massively better for it.

I'm pretty sure people can say a player isn't good enough, put aside all the above and debate it from there sensibly. You know, like grown ups. There is no need for the rest of it. None. Think about that, think about how you approach it, again, SC will be a better place for it, I promise you.

Well said, and it's something that is becoming more prevalent as time goes on.

I think the closest I've ever come is with Winks, I think it's pretty well known my feelings towards him and why, and I can also admit I've probably been ott early on with him. I feel I've always been fair with him as far as his performances on the pitch are concerned though and when he does ok I make a point of saying so. There is no player that gets to this position in the game "being shit" none of them. One thing is for certain though, that despite what I know or how I feel about him and his character I would never ever boo, or shout abuse at him whilst wearing the shirt because that is a line that should never be crossed.

I look at the threads on here of other clubs and find it incredible how so many criticising other team's fans are so guilty of being just as delusional and bias as anyone on Rawk or Arsemania etc. We can laugh about how The red scousers are often referred to as "best fans in the world" but they'd never boo one of their own, never.

I'm pretty sure TFH is simply trolling. If not, he's clearly not on a level that is worth discussing with. For the sake of the thread it might be worth veering away from continuing this conversation.

Or, as I like to say; 'I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person'.

Genuinely interested as to why this is seemingly the tipping point in terms of outrage and pushback against abuse?

Emerson on the face of it is trying his best, and can't really be faulted for effort. And the targeting of him is probably unfair and unacceptable.

Daniel Levy though is almost certainly trying his best, working obscene hours doing so, and makes decisions based on and filled with far far more complexity than a lot of fans would have you believe when criticising them. Has never stopped fans piling in, booing, giving him all sorts of abuse, ridiculing him, ranting online, general level of hyperbole, etc. A lot of it probably unfair and unacceptable, but is usually seen as fair game.

Some managers - eg. Nuno of recent times - have almost certainly tried their best, worked obscene hours doing so, and made decisions based on and filled with far far more complexity than a lot of fans would have you believe when criticising them. Has never stopped fans piling in, booing, giving them all sorts of abuse, ridiculing him, ranting online, general level of hyperbole, etc. A lot of it probably unfair and unacceptable, but is usually seen as fair game.

What changes things, is it because in this case it is a player in the crosshairs?

What's happening (particularly at matches) is unsavoury, but it's hardly a new thing to target someone. Now I am not saying that any of the scenarios are right, but when some fans are strongly criticising the selective/personal/individual haranguing of a player now, probably reflect on what you might have said or not said and done in the past, and the same mindfulness should apply to every individual in future.....

Why would you boo a player who never hides , always accepts the challenge and plays to his best abilities in the role asked of him (an alien one at that) . He may lack the skills the position requires but his effort and bravery cannot be called into question and its not his fault he is picked every game.

The fact that an 'unnamed poster' is calling Conte an idiot after the way he's carrying on in here is incredible and the absolute height of irony lol

Jamie O Hara on Talk Sport can shut up too. I used to find him slightly amusing but this morning his constant use of "worst player I have ever seen in a Spurs shirt" got on my nerves. He was referring to Sanchez and Emerson - fucking pot , kettle black or what?

Probably? Jesus wept.

I really don't understand what people are finding hard to grasp about this. If you are a supporter of a club then you should not be abusing anyone at the club, regardless of their role.

I've mentioned this before but I've met JOH a few times. Nice guy, but as thick as two short planks.

Talksport is what it is though, and they've taken brainless punditry to new levels with JOH and Agbonlahor. Their opinions are pretty much void when their mouths open.

I think it becomes much more focussed and publicly humiliating for a player than somebody like Levy. A player gets booed by their own 'fans' when their name is read out on the teamsheet, or the moment they get the ball or misplace a pass. That's lazer beam focus and public ridicule on a different level to general whinging on social media, and placard wavers outside the ground, who are generally dismissed as nut jobs anyway.

I’ve not listened to talk sport for some years now. The only show I found any good was Hawksby & Jacobs. The rest of it was just bating people to ring in.

Didn't Liverpool fans send death threats to Karius after his mistakes in the CL final?

It's hard to define these horrible people as "fans" or "supporters" though. I think all big clubs may have had problems like this - football is such a popular sport that there will always be a small minority of the fans who are idiots or if I'm being generous - misguided.

I would like to give it the benefit of doubt that these idiots are in the noisy minority, but then it's up to the real supporters to get behind the players and managerial team to drown out the noise. If we as fans heard someone in the stadium/pub shout something racially abusive, would we sit quiet and tolerate it? Obviously racial abuse is abhorrent, but then so are other forms of abuse including bullying, and we shouldn't sit quiet and let the abuse slide. Abusive fans should be driven out.

Jamie O'Hara cheats on his missus. I don't listen to what he says.

I went through a very odd and desperate period of thinking Jamie O'Hara was half decent for about 2 months when he played for us. ? Then again I thought teemu tainio was quality, which probably tells you how low the standard was back then. This is something else for the boo boys to think about when they're abusing Emerson royal for the crime of 'not being that good'.
