It's interesting that some of the same people who've already written off 23-year-old Emerson as not good enough are keen for 22-year-old Spence to be played before our manager deems him to be ready. If someone is only a year younger and behind him in the pecking order, what evidence is there that they have more potential?

If people want to voice their discontent about players they perceive as not good enough, surely the people who signed him are to blame, not the player. ?‍♂️

Another very limited player. One of the most un-Brazilian; Brazilians I’ve ever seen. Looks so stiff and technically awkward.

Sell? YES.

Boo? No. Not whilst he’s wearing our badge.

My brother was there yesterday and said that it was pretty toxic. It's not on IMO. There's a line between frustration and hatred. I think that people need to consider the potential impact that they are having on his mental well-being.
It has been pretty hostile the last 2 games I've been too (Sporting and Leeds). The break has come at a good time but I really hope fans can return in a more positive frame of mind.
It's not just Emerson but he's being singled out a lot more for some reason. A lot of anger amongst fans at the moment, makes me wonder if I imagined the 90s and early 00s being a dark time and we actually in fact won titles in that time. That's the only reason I could think the expectation has been set so high.

It has always been a tough crowd at Spurs. Remember way back (when we were really s**t) Samways getting the treatment despite not doing the obvious thing and hiding. More recently, Rose was getting similar (and commented on it in an interview iirc). One of the reasons I cba with going to games anymore. Doing more and more non-league, which has fewer moaning c**ts in attendance. Not just pro-rata either.

Emerson gets less stick than John Pratt used to and Pratt scored some pearlers

No I didn't and I would have been stealing a living if I had.

I don't agree with booing players but the guy is crap. I'm not knocking his effort, just his ability and footballing brain. Am I seeing a different player to everyone else here? He is where an attack goes to die 95% of the time down our right side. 1 good pass out of 100 isn't a ratio we should be happy with. He needs to be sold and a player bought in who can actually play in that position which ios vital to this system. The fans are clearly sick of seeing him in the starting line up and the match thread mirrors that.
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest you are or at least to anyone that understands football. If anyone thinks he's so bad maybe they should think to themselves why an elite manager like Conte is picking him. It's not because he has no choice because he has options and didn't want to sell in the summer. Then maybe think to yourself that actually maybe you don't really understand as much about football as you think.

Little bit too “way back” for me. Just looked him up and found this quote:

“I had been getting it in the neck a bit from some of the sections of the crowd at Spurs but Bill expected his players to be men, and he said that the crowd paid our wages and were entitled to have their opinions. So one day, before I was due to play my first game at Old Trafford, I asked him what I could expect. He replied that it would just be like playing at Spurs, except that up there 55,000 people would hate me, whereas at Spurs it was only 45,000!”

Plus ca change….

I think we can all establish that the blame lies with Conte, when it comes to picking him 24/7.

When he will finally establish, that Emerson is not the answer, I do not know…

Disagree. Doherty has been injured and it’s very possible Spence is not the messiah.

Fans regularly make the mistake of thinking if a player is not good enough, then the understudy or just any kid must be better.

Looks alright to me. Two footed as well. Shit haircut admittedly. Was that the problem? Did the fans disapprove of his shocking barnet?

I was only a kid he used to score some good goals but as I remember it he used to shoot every time the ball went near him so the goals weren't the whole story - good club man and was around till the promotion season - funny reading that he went into partnership with Mark Falco another player who the Spurs crowd had a bit of a love hate relationship with

If your face doesn't fit at Spurs my word can the crowd be difficult. Other players can do worse and nothings said....v strange
I absolutely agree that there is a wider issue at play with the criticism of certain players, maybe with similar distinguishing features, by 'fans'.

I’m sorry but there’s absolutely zero justification in Emerson starting 90% of the games this season.

Yes Doherty has had an injury & Spence may not be ready, but they should have atleast seen more starts imo.

When you actually look at the amount of starts Emerson has made this season, it’s a ridiculous situation we find ourselves in, where he’s being made to play, week in, week out.

No need to apologise.

Did you want us to play Doherty while he was injured? Do you think Spence must be better right now just because you don't rate Royal?

At the start of the season I understood why Emerson was playing, but after the International break, I definitely expected to see more starts for Doherty/Spence, with games being played every 3 days.

I really thought that big hug Conte gave Doherty was going to be the turning point, but it seems like Emerson is still his go to man.

This break will be interesting for Conte to work with all 3 of them more closely, although I suspect Spence will be loaned out in Jan regardless.

I just hope at the very least Doherty can earn back his starting spot, because as shown at the end of last season, we are much more dynamic going forward, with him & Kulu linking up.

Maybe we’ll just end up bringing in a new RWB in Jan, who knows ??‍♀️

When will fans finally establish that Conte is the manager who has done fantastic with this club in his first year so deserves faith in whoever he selects
