Absolutely believe this. Kane saga (and others) exposed a lot of football journalism for what it is. A bunch of spin and sometimes downright lies for clicks, which even the most sceptical of us can get drawn in to lapping up.

de Ligt talking about turning us down was eye-opening, and we probably only hear about a fraction of transfer 'attempts' or 'conversations' that go on - but it seems like journos take a small fraction of them that they think are likely to generate the most clicks, and spin it. I can imagine their boss saying they have to get several articles out of one small snippet.

Part of the issue is that people base their entire perception of the truth on not only those articles, but the velocity of them. Like SSN spinning the Sissoko thing as if it was last-minute drama, and he did a u-turn on the M6 after getting a call. Sissoko himself, and others, have referred (or inferred) to that deal being started weeks before, and being sat at Hotspur way confused as to how the Everton reports were days out of date.

We already have seen Paratici seemingly gifting strategic dribbles of info to the likes of Romano, whilst then going and signing a seemingly random player hours later that no one knew was happening.

How else do you expect us to say we tried, it was complicated, we didn’t have enough time or it’s not an easy market?
Because you make fun of those things doesn’t make them any less relevant or true. Especially given that “it’s complicated” and “it’s not an easy market” are the same point.

There takes so much willing for this sort of deal, it gets trivialised by football computer games but from a pure asset transfer perspective, sportsperson transfers are so complex. Not only do you have the usual buyer and seller, but your target asset has to agree its terms as well.

Any attempt to suggest that it’s simple is an ill-informed one.

Why do we keep targeting players who don’t want to sign for us?

What a complete waste of fucking time. Torres, Kounde and now this guy. ??

I reckon contacting a player's representatives to find out if he's interested or not, takes about as much time as you and me writing these two posts. So not very much time wasted at all. It's not like we use pigeons.

Among the players he spoke to Barcelona about were right-back Emerson Royal and Ilax Moriba.

football.london understands talks took place over the former in case Spurs were able to move on both Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty, with the north London club currently more than fully stocked with three right-backs.

Moving on both of their experienced right-backs looks to be a step too far at this current stage, although the hope is that Aurier does at least get his desired move.

With Moriba, the preference of his representatives appears to be a more financially lucrative move to RB Leipzig next summer when his contract expires at Barcelona.

Yeah that seems fanciful thinking at best. I do think Aurier will go tomorrow but Doherty isn't going anywhere.

We should sign Royal and then Tanganga as back up RB or when we need a more defensive approach.

Doherty should just be put in the reserves, he's useless and nobody will want him.

Barça and Tottenham have reached an agreement in principle to transfer Emerson Royal to the English club.

The deal will be completed for a sum in excess of 23 million euros.

Lluís Miguelsanz / Tomas Andreu

Principle of agreement between Barcelona and Tottenham for Emerson Royal for almost 30 million between fixed and variable. Negotiation advanced, NOT closed. Koeman wanted to keep him, but after yesterday's game something has changed. And the offer from Spurs is very good.
