TBH I would sell, bring Dier in the fold

Don't understand the Dier hate but we literally struggling to sell any of our players now we are acting like Sanchez is like undroppable

We have one game a week until January. Squad is too big and if Dier has to come in, so be it. I trust Ange to get Dier in to decent form and to be honest. Dier will be high up enough to have his fullbacks try to recover and Van Der Ven, who is quick as well
Some might "hate" dier, but many like me don't, we just see the issues he would have in this system (which evidently ange does too).

If nothing else Ange cant increase Diers speed, he just doesnt have it and is essential to playing the aggressive game we want to.

Undroppable? He doesn’t get in the team!

If one of our CBs get injured we could maybe just get by playing the same way with Sanchez but we’ll be worse off imo.
If dier has to come in then we’d be in real trouble.

As for Ange being able to get dier up to it in this system, If Ange thought he could get dier up to the level he’d be in the squad ahead of Phillips who’s had about 10 pro games, it’s clear dier won’t work in this system and Ange knows he can’t make it work.

I can usually see the financial argument to most deals, but getting the money Gala would pay for Sanchez now is a pretty insignificant amount and an amount we'd likely get close to if we waited and sold him in January (when we could buy a replacement).

I've always been fine with one of Dier or Sanchez seeing out their contract alongside Cuti,VdV and another new CB, i am definitely not fine with leaving ourselves with only Cuti, VdV and Dier as senior CB's.

Especially after we've started so well, the upside (9m euros?) is completely outweighed by the downside imo, so i actually can't see it happening and i would be very disappointed if it did.

Btw loved how Son jumped into the arms of a beaming Sanchez after one of his goals, Sanchez never looks like a player who doesn't want to be around the club.

Any injuries I’d play Phillips. Don’t care if he’s only 18, let’s have some confidence in him.

Not sure the boss agrees considering Phillips is ahead of him on the bench.

Also, as a fan who doesn’t really care about the accountancy side of it or the general feelings of millionaires who’ve turned down the chance to play football this window, the squad being too big doesn’t matter to me. Not once the window closes as it doesn’t effect recruitment.

Hard to judge from a distance though, he may well be up to it by what he's doing in training and if he is then i'm sure Ange would play him if need be. The only thing i would say is that the way we play out from the back, especially when pressed hard like yesterday, it does take a lot of balls to do that and that could be hard for an 18 yr old who's never played top flight footy (i'd be shitting myself if it were me , put it that way !).

I just don’t think Dier is capable of playing in this system. He’s not got the agility that Romero, VDV aand Sanchez have, let alone the speed.

I quite like Dier, and disagree with a lot of the hate he gets, but him turning like a tanker on the half way line as attackers fly passed him is just a recipe for disaster. And it’s not enough to say that the fullbacks will cover for him, chances are the fullbacks will be nearer the opposition goal than ours with the way we build attacks. Our centre halves need to be quick, agile and comfy on the ball. Eric only ticks one of those boxes.

No offense, but why would you play him on the basis of probably 0 minutes you watched him touch a football?

fine mate, none taken. he's clearly had plenty of minutes for blackburn which isn't shabby plus i've always said, if you're good enough you're old enough. sanchez/dier/davies are known quantities and we all know not the ideal option to rely on. hence i'd much rather give him a go and see what he can do, even if he has zero minutes. if it's a disaster, so be it.

He played maybe 10 games for Blackburn. He absolutely isn't ready to be first choice cover in case of injuries. We know Sanchez can be good, and we know he has precarious moments. Whoever covers in case of injuries will be targeted by the opposition, and Sanchez is better prepared for that. An error in the first five minutes in front of 50k people, he'll be rattled but can put his head back on. Phillips might be amazing from the off, but it's an enormous risk. Starting him too early is much more likely to shake his confidence.

Did you not see his pathetic display against Barcelona in pre-season? he's a car crash in Anges sytem

His second half of a preseason game, is what we are judging him on?

I think Sanchez gets a bad rep from our fans but there were fans literally abusing him last season

Dier before the Man Utd game last season was brilliant for us and now people are overreacting over how bad he is. Dier whilst not being agile isn't slow, he was one of our fastest players at one point(by top speed)

I know it's been mooted before but might Emerson even be used in a pinch if needs be? Dav is doable as third choice though I think. Not ideal but eh. One swallow doesn't put your hand in a bird's bush, or however the saying goes.

If the plan is to ship him out to Turkey, and blood some youngsters... (or use Davies/Royal as emergency backup) I'm all for it.

Dier and/or Davies as the only cover. Nope.

Still need another CB in Jan.

it was a big indicator how he would fare in Anges system

Its a polar opposite role he needs to play. Hes ok being a spare man sweeping up but thats not we need now.

Ignore the hyperbole from the forums, the manager who we all want to get behind has decided Dier cant do it.

Its not a debate with random ppl on the SC its disputing the managers view. Do you think Ange has made a bad assessment here?

No idea about your top speed claim but if it takes 10 seconds to get to top speed its irrelevant.
