Repeating the same mistake we did with dembele in taking a small sum of money now which seems ok but leaves us very short if we get an injury or two. No doubt we'll get some.leaks that these deals will mean we can line up deals in January but we all know how believable this type of line is.
If we sell Sanchez it's a poor deal as it leaves us very vulnerable in an absolute crucial position
I get what you are saying - but, I think, despite the great start to the season, everyone is looking at this year as a transition year. Expectations are probably a European spot - not necessarily CL. If Sanchez is not expected to be part of the long-term plan, and we have a willing buyer - take what you can get, and push Phillips into a more prominent role in the squad. Yes, it might mean we take some lumps later in the season - but, if our target is to prepare players for the long-term, this is a better plan.

Understand your point and don't get me wrong I am not getting carried away and thinking we are top 4 material now however I don't believe either dier of Davies can fill in with our high line so as you say that leaves us with the kids to fill in. Obviously that could work out and one of them shines if they are called up however chances more likely it won't go brilliantly. That could potentially cost us some points which affects where we finish in league and each league position is worth approx 5m so while selling him brings in money now it could cost us in terms of league position and potentially ( and fully acknowledge it's a potential stretch) if we make Europe and what competition that is.
I just don't agree with leaving us short in a crucial position but fully acknowledge that if we are lucky with injury and suspensions it could work out in our favour

We all know what Dier and Sanchez can do at this level, and sadly it is not good enough. We don't know what Dorrington and Phillips can do, they might be worse, but let's find out now, in a season with plenty of training time between games to coach everyone and where in all honesty none of us expect to win a trophy - the start has given us some hope - but I would rather promote the intergration of two young prospects than revert to those who have struggled over many seasons.

That's a vry optimistic take IMHO. Much more likely we are taking money for Sanchez while we can irrespective of where it leaves the squad.
Whether my view is optimistic or not, it's the reality now. Phillips seems to be the preffered back up over Dier looking at our squad yesterday, so the youth is being trusted. Who knows what the reasoning is, but the outcome is exciting. Love seeing the young players given the keys.

Also the reason for not playing youth players normally is because they struggle with the pace of the game and make mistakes, which Sanchez has been doing for 5 years now. It can't be that much of a drop off from him to Phillips.

I’m excited to see what Phillips can do.
Pretty sure Dier won’t play for us again.
Hope Sanchez does well there .

Delighted to see him go but it should have been last week. Watch us sell him for less than that French team offered.

Should Sanchez leave, based on pre-season I'd say Davies is 3rd choice center half. He has played center half on back three for us, but has he played on center half duo with Wales?

It seems more of a confidence thing. Pushing someone into a level that’s too high for them and rather than pushing them up a level they lose confidence.

There’s a reason no Prem team plays youngsters before they’re ready and no team just plays a young player because the player ahead of him isn’t good enough.

It’s detrimental to the young player.

F'ing hell. We're getting rid of Dav now.

We're an injury away from being right in the shit.

We’d be an injury away from being right in the shit with him in the squad too, as proven last week at Fulham.

We play once a week until January - let’s hope for no injuries and hopefully we can revisit the CB market then.

He proved alright v Brentford with a starting fullbacks and midfield around him though. Put him in the premier league XI and I'd say he'd be fine for us until January. I also don't think he worse our worst performer v Fulham either but that's another discussion entirely.

I'd be worried more if Phillips hadn't been playing men's football in the Championship last year. We've seen time and time again that if a player performs in the championship, it's a good indication they'll play well in the Prem. And if Ange has sanctioned it, as Ali G has said he has, then he must trust him too. He's not starting let's remember, he's just the reserve option.

At some point you have to hand the reins over to a young player, and Sanchez has underperformed for 5 seasons and was gone in 12 months anyway. Now is the perfect time.

Although I'm a bit concerned about how this leaves us with cover in central defence at the same time I'll be glad to see Sanchez and particularly Ndombele move on.
