Without having seen the game I’d imagine he was pulled from pillar to post today with our lack of pace at the back

Plus with the huge amount of pressure our back 4 was under all afternoon he couldn’t have been that poor!!!

Still learning but I like him a lot and I’m sure Jose will improve him even more
So your commenting on someones performance without even seeing the game, surely you can't be that desperate to post on him.

He definitely struggled yesterday, particularly the first half, as others have noted. I think he plays the man too much and not the ball... or his balance and reading of other players isn't quite right... it looks to me like he's caught trying to grapple with them, but getting it wrong and getting bypassed (I'm thinking specifically when Jota(?) rounded him in the box).

As a positive, he did great covering the back post while Jan kept getting beat by Traore (I don't even particularly mean that as a criticism of Jan... plenty of people are beaten for pace by Traore). Sanchez had 10 clearances (most in the game), and I would guess a good number were heading away crosses into the box. Glad he's getting a regular run, and sure he'll keep improving, but obviously not the finished article right now.

It’s a really easy proposition to argue against because all you have to do is state which of our defenders has been better this season with some reasons.

...........

People will rate Alder as better defensively based on the aspect of his game that has nothing to do with defending.

Davinson Sanchez is a bit of enigma to me. When you watch him recover he looks sensational. His half slides are brilliant. In the air he more often than not gets the ball as he is strong in the air. So he should be a great CB shouldn't he?
Its his positioning and sometimes his judgement that is lacking. Often a defender tucks behind him on the blind side as he is he is
ball watching in the other direction. This sense of where you should be relative to your marker is a huge one that seperates the crème of CBs from the rest. His positional sense definitely goes wanting, Sometimes on awkward balls into the box his doesn't judge well either. so its a bit of a hodge podge of him looking World Class at times and mediocre at other times. His kick outs don't save him either as he seems almost too nervous to take control. He looks tenuous with the ball. (Im sure he would be good with it but somehow he looks spooked with the ball at his feet)
I honestly do not feel confident with Sanchez at although I applaud his recoveries almost with a sigh of relief

Excellent under Jose so far loving how tight he seems to be getting to strikers in our half to pinch the ball back

There were a couple of slow moving flighted balls that came his way under pressure and he dealt really well with them today to my delightful surprise. If he can address that and start learning how to treat the ball like anything else but a hot potato then he’ll start to become the rock he is meant to be.

Absolute rock again today.
Yep.

It’s ridiculous some of the criticism he gets on here. With a dysfunctional central midfield in front of him he deals with constantly being put under pressure as well as can be expected. He’s been one of most consistent performers in the first half of the season IMO.
