In our system i think Brennan could work as the central striker.
He would offer us the same work rate as Richarlison, while offering more explosive pace/acceleration when making runs, stretching and moving teams out of shape even more.

Would be happy if we bought him in as he could play in two positions we are currently quite weak in.

Alternatively, if Johnson comes in as RWF option (who can cover as CF), then that kind of shuffles the pack
RWF - Kulusevski, Johnson
LWF - Perisic, Solomon
CF - Son, Richarlison
Probably not ideally where we’d want to be. I’d hoped for better, but it’s a fairly fluid setup then.

When Gil returns he also can play RWF/LWF and is a more nimble passing wing forward than the others, and I am sure he would fit well with the system Ange is using with good movement and 1-2 touches.

I think Gil is going to have a great season for us, I know a lot of luck is involved in terms of getting the opportunity to prove it but I feel like his attitude, coupled with Ange's mentality of wanting players who show that enthusiasm and bravery on the ball. I think he's going to come good.

This is why I'm a bit unsure of what I'm hoping for at the end of this window. I think in my mind with the forwards, if the scouts can't find something truly exceptional in terms of players to develop, then I'd rather do nothing because we have as understudies:

Gill - Scarlett - Solomon

And Veliz

Now those 4 players all have something worth developing. I don't see the point in signing mediocrity just because we should really have found a meaningful player to replace Kane. Don't sign players who are just going to get in the way. A good example is Moussa Sissoko, we signed him and to be fair to him, he gave what he could but that signing was the beginning of the end of that era because it just was not what we needed, it gave the illusion of filling a hole but he was detrimental to our style and became a 30 million pound problem that had to be shoehorned in. We made use of him but that was because there was no alternative, no fault of his though.

Tottenham set for Brennan Johnson talks as Nottingham Forest push for £50m

Tottenham ready to move for Forest forward as they look to bolster their attack following Harry Kane's departure

Tottenham are set to open talks over a move for Nottingham Forest’s £50million rated forward Brennan Johnson with a view to completing a deal this week.

The Wales international is emerging as a serious target for Tottenham, who are preparing for a late flurry of business before Friday night’s transfer deadline.

Johnson’s future at Forest has been uncertain throughout the summer and Tottenham are ready to move for the 22-year-old, who has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs including Chelsea, West Ham, Aston Villa and Brentford this summer.

Tottenham have already signed England international James Maddison and Manor Solomon this summer, while also completing a permanent deal for Dejan Kulusevski, but are still in the market for more attacking players after the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham could offer cash plus players, with centre-half Davinson Sanchez and winger Bryan Gil likely to be two players who could be part of any deal.

Johnson is rated at over £50million by Forest, who have already rejected two offers from Brentford over the summer, but Tottenham hope an offer of £40million plus guaranteed instalments will be enough.

As reported by Telegraph Sport last month, Brentford’s second proposal of £35million was instantly turned down by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Johnson was one of Forest’s stand-out performers as the club secured Premier League survival last season, scoring eight goals and contributing three assists.

Forest are reluctant to sell the homegrown talent but could use the money to fund their own search for new signings.

Is his pace deceptive? Seen quite a few videos (I know, I know…) and he doesn’t look “rapid” as most people have said.

Watching him play yesterday, he would give us wings much needed pace. Especially in the transition. I trust to Ange to make him work. He was great in 1v1 situations against United yesterday.

John Percy as good as you get for Midlands news.

Yes, but as usual the headline isn't the true story. Herc has already said £15-20m plus player(s).

Implies that we would pay their value in cash £40m plus guaranteed installments which is nonsense as add ons wouldn't be guaranteed.

'Set for', and 'ready to move' does sound like we've added Nottingham Forest's phone number to our contacts list though. Just got to find a notebook and a pen, and a desk with a chair and we're all good to go. Hopefully by Wednesday we will be literally dialling the City Ground.

Ugh. I know he's HG but I'm just not a fan of spending half our Kane money on another squad player who doesn't get into our team. Especially if that's involves losing Gil, who's just as suited to the winger role under Ange and just as talented as Johnson.

I think so. Last year only Kyle walker clocked a higher top speed than Johnson did in the Premier league.

If spending £40 mil on Johnson stops us from bringing in a quality CF I’m going to be rather disappointed. I’m also not convinced by the idea of bringing him in as a CF

It makes sense if they take a couple of players we're struggling to shift. But otherwise I'm leaning towards your thinking.

We already have Solomon who can't get game time plus Gil to return. Earlier in the window I was against a big striker signing, because I think we tend to find better value in smart signings - but seeing our team looking quite complete except that striker role... I'm warming up to the idea.

If we could get Vlahovic with richy going the other way that would be aces.

But maybe better to sit on the Kane cash and see where we are in 4 months. We'll have a much better idea by then and gives us time to really focus on potential new strikers.
