My only knowledge of him so far is from watching Youtube videos but a small side bonus to signing him is that, similar to Kane, he seems incredible at defending corners.

Currently think our team will be very suspect at defending corners this year, especially if we lose Kane, so it's a nice added bonus.

Just caught Tim Vickery on SSN, he's their South American expert (and a Spurs fan).

He started by offering a word of caution; he's seen a number of strikers thrive in Argentina but struggle in the Premier League so he has concerns when comparing Veliz to those named (about half a dozen).

He also says Veliz is physically strong for his age and his main strength is aerial ability and has scored a number of headed goals. Given quite a few have observed how low our crossing has been in pre-season, this seems odd.

The point he made (which has been touched on above) is how cheap players are when bought directly. Were he to move to, say, Portugal and succeed, his value will probably treble within months.
He said Paulinho was going to be a better signing than Fernandinho

Don’t get excited - Sky’s South American football ‘expert’ Tim Vickery says he’s going to be rubbish.

Thought he said that previously Argie strikers have struggled in the Prem, nothing personal about Alejo

The others were discussing the fact that Veliz was one for the future and then said Vickery disagrees.
I was actually just making a point about Sky, dissing what we are doing as usual, not suggesting he was right.

Messi when asked about Argentina's U-21 team and who he thinks are the next emerging talents: "Vega, Perrone, and especially Veliz. Watching him play reminds me of what Suarez used to play like. I am very excited for the future of this country, and hope I can be an influence to these people, and talk to him"

Didn’t we fire some South American scout last year because he went on Colombian tv talking about which players we liked and were scouting? So we’ve at least been thinking about SA for a while, probably since Fabio came in. The new work permit rules ought to make things much easier.

It’s good to see us looking at different markets, there’s some amazingly talented and tough players in Argentina, and Brazil.

I know the league there overall isn’t right up there in quality, but it’s actually a great place to find talent for us, players tend to be technically very good, and it’s a hardened, physical league so joining the prem from there, yes the quality of play is quicker, but a lot of players will be physically ready to stand up to it and deal with the tackles, and physicality.

Hope we get this done, and then really look deeper into that market.
