Actually just watching that Lakers series and in NFL and NBA the all star game is a massive big deal. I know it would mean another game but I’m quite surprised it’s never happened the obvious would be North Vs South. They could really make it into a razzmatazz affair and make a fortune off it with TV rights etc.

I guess we are more tribal in the UK than the US when it comes to sports teams, so would we really want to see kane playing with a bunch of Chelsea and arsenal players (yes I know England but at least we are English!) when we don't really care about being "the south"?

Ps sorry to piss on your bonfire, maybe others would be more positive on this than me ?

Is there a cap in basketball on how many players come from each club?

Let's be honest an all-star Northern PL team would just be City and Liverpool players.

Like I said I think would just be the razzmatazz of it. A half City / Liverpool team be worth a watch and Ronaldo might get a loook in.

I assume by NFL all-star game you’re referring to the Pro-Bowl(?). If so it’s likely to be ditched in the next few years as it’s become a farce. Many of the participants are players who didn’t make the original cut and are called up as replacements for players who are either injured or taking part in the SuperBowl, and the game itself is now devoid of any intensity.

The NFL Commissioner has said himself very recently that it needs to change. I think our Community Shield currently serves the same purpose more effectively as it’s a competitive game rather than a pure exhibition.

As an American who has watched these things for over half a century, I can assure you that this is not a place you want to go.

These are not "big deals". Most US fans would like to get rid of them.

With all the extra club competitions and international breaks it just isn't necessary.

There’s already too much other cref that interferes with the Premier League.

It still irks me when I hear Americans commentating on football. It’s just weird.

Nah I don't mind that, like I said it's the world's game, it's their to be enjoyed by everyone, and there are some very knowledgeable bods on here from across the pond.

I just hate it when they want to change literally anything about it, including Americanising the terminology. It's a squad not a roster, we don't "play on the road" we play away from home, and the players wear shirts they don't wear fucking jerseys.

yeah, that’s kinda what I was getting at. How they conflate terminology of American sports with that of Footballs.

That said, they argue with the periodic table, too, so…

I like the idea of a mini tournament of the big five leagues consisting of England/Germany/Spain/Italy/France where you play a team made up from each league.

Only stipulation being no more than 3 players from any one team (I.e. Germany can’t just pick the whole Bayern Munich team).

Think you’d get some interesting match-ups (better than the Nations League anyway)

As others have said, the NFL version of the 'all star' game just serves as a support act for the Superbowl. The match itself is almost non contact.
Players don't want to get hurt etc.

Also when you see how lazy and predictable the voting for team of the year is, the proposed Premier league all star teams would largely be made up of the top 2/3 teams.

They really aren’t a big deal here in the states. In almost all the leagues the players just go half ass because it’s a meaningless game and they don’t want to get hurt. Hell, the NFL Pro Bowl is the week before the Súper bowl, which means the players from the two best teams don’t play.
The only one that used to matter was MLB because winning side got home field advantage in the World Series, but they did away with that.

I find Europe’s way of doing leagues and such in Football to be very refreshing, I think the MLS would garner a lot more interest if they would go to a relegation and division system.
