Hello, I am an Arsenal fan and wouldn’t normally come to a Spurs community forum but I need us to put rivalries aside for the sake of my step-father.

David Gooch is the biggest, kindest Tottenham fan, regularly attending home games, 2 weeks ago today he was getting ready to attend the first game of the season at Tottenham Hotspur stadium vs City.

Before the game he received the most horrific call from his son’s girlfriend that his son Sean Gooch had suffered multiple heart attacks when out for a run. Sean being a 26 year old healthy runner, this was a massive shock. Without hesitation, David drove up north to Manchester to be by his son’s side. Sean passed away in the early hours of Wednesday 18th August.

David is heartbroken at the loss of his only son and I too at the loss of my step-brother. I fear my step father may never be the same again and his passion for his beloved Spurs may never be what it was. After losing his father and mother in recent years I’ve noticed he’s never quite returned to his old bantering ways at my expense!

Please help me to honour Sean in some way, show David that you are all there and you hear him and feel his pain. Where do I go for Tottenham to hear this and do some kind of gesture for David and his son (my step-

I would do anything to bring Sean back and make my step-father have some happiness again, even if it meant Spurs winning the league and Champions league.

Thank you, Spurs fans.

He was put into an induced coma as his brain had been deprived of oxygen for over 90 minutes. Things took a turn and he had to have his leg amputated the next morning because of a blood clot. This was done to give him a chance of survival. Unable to breath by himself, he was using up to full capacity of life support, expecting the worst David was by his sons side, playing his favourite music in hope of a miracle. This miracle did not come as Sean passed away in the early hours of Wednesday 18th August.

This is absolutely tragic and highlights once again that each day could be our last. Love those around you, show them how much you care about them and leave no stone unturned. You never know what will happen.

Football has the ability to cut through the painful times, it’s our passion and passion always pulls through eventually (even though both our teams haven’t given us amazing enjoyment over the last couple of years).

I believe the reception Saka received from the Tottenham fans recently, highlighted that the ‘rivalry’ between both clubs is just that, but it by no means cuts past the human element which is above all else the most important thing and one thing our two clubs have in common. Simply put, Arsenal need Tottenham and Tottenham need Arsenal.

I wish you all the very best recovery from a very difficult situation.

Thank you ?? beautiful sentiments and it is very true that when it comes to the human element, we stand together.
If anyone knows or can point me in the right direction just to get this out so Dave’s son can be honoured, I just think it will give David a massive lift.

Absolutely tragic. I'm sure all our thoughts are with you and your family.

As a first step I'd try emailing [email protected] and see if theres anything they can do.

All the best. Take care.

Genuinely sorry for your loss

I'm not huge on football rivalries (humour notwithstanding), but it is a bit odd you'd use that username and avatar in the context of a post like this)

Football rivalries do not matter in times like these.

Hopefully the club can help you do something to honour your step-brother.

If you are not getting anywhere, try contacting some of the Spurs podcasts on Twitter such as the Spurs Show and The Fighting Cock. They have a surprising reach and could even get something fan led done.

Sending you are your family all out love from Ireland.

Oh mate, that's heartbreaking. We may all be rivals on the pitch or in the stands, but as humans we're all brothers.

I sincerely hope you manage to get your Step-dad back on his feet and find a way to lift his spirit again. I'm sure it won't be easy, but with someone as compassionate as you around he's got a fighting chance.

Big love dude. All the best to you and the whole family.

Alasdair Gold at www.football.london may know someone who can reach out to the club, he used to be a member on here and is a very decent bloke with close ties to the club, so he might be able to help.
