Pascal Chimbonda - What were you thinking?

The bottom line is that I'm greedy. We've won one Cup, and I want another. I want the UEFA Cup as well.

Both Hutton & Gunter are ineligible for the UEFA Cup, so Chimbonda is easily the best RB we have available. We can find out where his head is in the summer, but until then, I'm delighted he came back and celebrated like a nutter on the pitch.

If Juande & Gus can make sure he keeps his concentration levels high, a fit Chimbonda improves our chances of European glory to add to the Carling Cup.

Plus, as SS57 and I have noted, Ricky Villa threw exactly the same kind of strop on being subbed in the first FA Cup Final against Man City. Burkinshaw picked Ricky for the Replay, and the rest is Tottenham Legend!

So, Robbo gets his career dismantled in front of him, losing his England spot, his club spot and his form all in the space of about a week, then you lot jump on his back for not celebrating something he wasn't a part of, but are all more than happy to defend Chimbo's over-dramatic, stroppy, childish stomping act when he's subbed to change the shape and style of the team? :|

Chimbonda needs to sort his f*cking head out - the other players on the pitch offered him a slap on the back, Huddlestone offered him a handshake, he totally blanked them all then stomped off - Stroppy bastard needs to sort his attitude out - there's no "I" in team, but there's three in "Chimbonda stop sulking you whiney chud"

Well said! Its Hudd i feel sorry for. You see his face as Chimbonda stormed past him> He was like 'What the fuck?'

How about Chimbonda saying only a few weeks back too that its 'all about the money' inviting an offer from Newcastle or any other club?
He done it to Wigan dont think he wont do it to us...

As Yanno pointed out in another thread, Ricky Villa stomped off down the tunnel in similar high dudgeon after Keithy subbed him in the first '81 final. And we know what happened in the second, don't we?

It was hard for Chimbo to take as, unlike Ricky, he'd had a good game; bringing the Hudd on was no reflection on him, just a brilliant tactical decision. That probably took a little while to sink in.

I still haven't apologised for that. Sorry

Por favor. Burkinshaw should never have subbed you in the first place.

Extreme disappointment that he was taken off. Nothing more. Bet he understood the decision once he'd calmed down a bit.

Nothing worth holding against him. He's just the sort of person who will react badly when subbed (unless he's injured) because he always wants to play.

Yep. Nothing more to it, IMO.

I didnt mind him walking down the tunnel, the thing that annoyed me was him wasting time by slowly ambling off the pitch when we're 1-0 down, and ignoring The Hudd.

That showed to me that A, he's more interested in his own success or failure than the teams, and B, he has terrible dress sense.

Sod that its a cup final and we were losing with Chelsea time wasting and this tosser strolls off the pitch like the games over because he's been subbed off.

He then ignores his team mate no goodluck, handshake just storms off. He played well today and no doubt he has ability but winning teams are not made by players with his attitude... if it did we wouldn't have just signed 2 rightbacks in January!

Totally agree, it beingg a Cup Final had fuck all to do with it, it shows complete lack of professionalism and disrespect imo.

I don't rate the guy too much anyhow, he's a liability at times. I doubt very much he features in Ramos's long term plans.

Maybe it shows just how much he does care and wanted to carry on playing.

2 points already made but worth making again

1 - Remember Ricky Villa - hardly a Spurs villain now

2 - If we are going to win the Uefa cup we need everyone behind Chimbo cos he will play in all the games and if any fans start having a go at him now then it will only do us harm

I can fully understand his frustrations, but the thing everyone seems to have overlooked is that Chimbonda is thick. Really, really, really, thick. I'm talking an absolute dolt. He has the brain of a gnu. A dead gnu. With a heavy head cold. Who has just failed the gnu 11+, with a score of -5/100. He will never be going to gnu grammar school. Or even gnu comprehensive. He will be forced to stay in the gnu playgroup and play with the soft toys on the mat, closely monitored by 3 gnu helpers.

We have had no end of stories that he can't read or write (perhaps only in English but how long has he lived there?) and that his native tongue is little better. He dresses like a twerp. His eyes have the radiance and clarity of a turd. His agent is a nasty **** as well, and obviously advises him very badly, and he is doubtless more responsible than Chimbs for the poor reputation the player has earned.

Anyway, that's not to say he isn't a good player. He was magnificent for Wigan and for the 1st year with us and has been terrific out of place at LB. But it really surprised me when SS57 says that no one could have predicted the Chimbs>Hudd switch.

Surely anyone to have seen how Ramos chases games (usually successfully) must have seen that Huddlestone was 100% coming on to unlock their defence, and that seeing as we couldn't sacrifice midfielders, wouldn't want to take off strikers, and our centre-halves were so magnificent left the swap as either Hutton or Chimbo.

And besides which, Ramos would have mentioned the probable swap in the dressing room at half-time, so Chimbo must have had an inkling at least. Wouldn't he?

NB: There's nothing wrong with being thick, by the way. Lest we forget that footballers have never been geniuses and nor should they be. Chimbonda is imminently more intelligent on a football pitch than me or anyone else on here and that's why we shouldn't actually be too upset with him. However, as he was subbed, we're talking about his behaviour off the pitch and hence it is relevant to question his intelligence here, I believe.

my view:

-good player, no doubt... versatile across the back four too which is very useful

-fair enough being frustrated at being subbed in a final, can understand that

-BUT, to take such a fucking long time to go off when we're a goal down is petulant, selfish and self-absorbingly dumb

i sincerely hope he has apologised to the team and it wouldn't do any harm to do the same to the fans...

pretty much all of us agree he's a very good player and adds value to the club but he needs to get rid of his attitude... otherwise he can fuck off to newcastle where they collect those sorts of players!

we are talking about the cup we won but you do know that there's still more than ten games left in the premier league and a waffa cup to consider - if we've got one player rocking the boat then yeah, i want to talk about that.

How long, in your opinion, must we live in this joyous bubble before we start addressing the possible issues that will matter to the games still to come?
