Interesting article from the daily mail (there's a sentence I never thought I'd use!) from Martin Samuel. Basically Parma have 226 players under contract NOT including academy players. The article also refers to Chelsea and udinese doing a similar scattergun approach and loaning players out en masse. Everyone knows about watford and udinese last year there is also a similar deal between Chelsea and vitesse Arnhem and I suppose us and Swindon now.

I think the article makes some good points and there needs to be a change in the system to control this as well as giving Lots of young players false hope it is also giving teams a false advantage that loan 5,6,7,8 etc players from one club.

What do you reckon leave the system as it is or change it (any ideas??) ?

Chelsea are actually doing a better job of loans than anyone else atm though I think last season Piazon shouldnt of gone to Malaga and we should of sent Falque there

Said before. Loans of players over 21 should be banned. It's the same as 3rd party ownership and stifles the progress of young players.

What is the point of a 25 man squad rule?

Definitely agree with the over 21 idea as it is just getting totally out of control now.

Banning the loans of players over 21 will also mean that the price of players will fall. How much would Parma get for their players? All the top teams in the world will have to unload players for a knock down price.

The rules need changing for sure, I think banning loans of players over 21(as suggested by Lillbaz) is a good start but I think FIFA/UEFA need to take a good look at whats going on. For example, lets say Watford get into the Prem, then qualify for Europe, then draw Udinese, both teams owned or partially owned by the same family. Its a conflict of fairplay and opening for possible corruption. Also, Chelsea sign Atsu, 2 days later he's on loan to Vittesse, so they didnt need him and are just stockpiling players essentially so no one else can have them....and we wonder why no English kids are coming through? Big changes are needed IMO.

This is already happening with Parma who have players in the same league as themselves and also co own players with other teams in serie A- ridiculous! Also according to the daily mail article above Parma were involved in approx 300 transactions in this summers transfers window, some people are making some serious money out of this I expect.

I think restricting rather than banning older players loans is wiser. Sometimes a player falls out of favour with a manager and deserves the chance to play football.

I can see them limiting the number of loans *from* a club rather just *to*. Maximum sending two players out on loan if they are over 23 and maybe five under 23 - not including academy players.

If the squad is limited to 25, then the club will have to look at selling players out of favour, rather than doing an ade and loaning them out. Also clubs will have to take more care in which players they buy in the first place.
Maybe a rule that if players are not included in the 25 man squad other teams can buy their contract out.

As with yachts, expect Roman to sort this one out.. nobody is going to have a bigger squad than him..

Love the idea on buying players contracts if not in the 25 man squad- should send that one to FIFA!

Haha. That is ridiculous. How did this come about? It can't have been the intended plan. I mean, I get it in principle. Take a punt on a big number of players (226 is extracting the urine though) and if only half a dozen or so hit then you've still got the basis of a strong first XI. But I mean, um - wow.

The DoF et al must age rapidly with all that constant monitoring and juggling.

Still, with that number of players I'd be surprised if they didn't find at least half a dozen players worth sticking with over the next couple of yrs. a less than 3% strike rate is hardly crazy.

Bet the Christmas parties are both a blast and exceptionally confusing.

And just imagine the team photo! Jebus... that's what panoramic view cameras were invented for, right there.
