For the 21/22 season and beyond they should just make replays optional. If you have two teams who don't want replays then the tie is decided there and then.
If you have one team who want the replay and the other team doesn't then you have the replay.

This makes sure the lower league teams don't miss out financially.

Makes the most sense to me. When you have e.g. two PL clubs playing replays against each other it's something absolutely nobody wants but the lower league Vs big team replays are basically the entire point in the competition so it would be a shame to get rid entirely.

I disagree. There were many cases where lower league teams got a draw only to be smashed in the replay. Now they get penalties.

You've completely missed the point there I'm afraid. The reason they have replays is because the two teams split the profit down the middle for each game. For a team like e.g. Macclesfield Town getting the chance to play a replay away at Anfield or something is a massive financial boost especially if it ends up being on the tele.

As I've said above by far the best compromise seems to be to give teams the choice. If both teams agree to forego the replay and go straight to pens then fair play. You then avoid the pointless games that nobody wants like Newcastle Vs Wolves in a replay, but you still give the lesser teams a chance to take advantage of they earn jt

I didn't realise that.

Understandable for this year, think they should be scrapped beyond the 3rd round going forward too. One chance for a payday against one of the big boys if you get that far, then that’s it.

Also think its high time they got rid of the two legged semi finals in the league cup.

Agree with that although I still believe PL sides should only be able to field 6/7 first team players the rest should come from their academies.
