Literally in documentaries you have Australian players saying how they never know what he's thinking, he is just always watching. You would never sit down and have a cup of coffee with him, its all business.
i dont know who youre talking about. not saying there isn't a player he's rubbed the wrong way, but I am Australian and when he was manager he was described as 'loved by his players'. He works them hard but he's also very fair. and Celtic's players have regularly spoken about the effect he's had on them on and off the pitch since he's been there.

Look, i actually don't think he's necessarily right for Spurs but i find the negativity to be ridiculously excessive

What is with this obsession of writing people off before they have even joined the club?
The same could be said for those who think people would be a smash hit before they’re even through the door.

The difference between Ange and Slot for me is whilst you can't judge either on their league form, you can judge them against better opposition in Europe. Ange record in Europe looks poor (Let's forget about CL) he was conceding goals for fun whilst Slot at least gave it a go against the bigger teams and got to respectable stages of the tournament, only to lose to Jose twice.

Ange got done comfortably by Bodo/Glimt. It wasn't even a contest

And De Zerbi got done by Sheriff in the CL while at Shakhtar. It means very, very little.

that last bit is literally not true at all. He's been described as tough but fair and his players love him. Also, distant is a weird description. Look at how he's embraced Celtic and how they've embraced him. He fully buys into wherever he is. He's very similar as a character to Pochettino imo
'Distant' because Australia is the other side of the world.

Look I'm not keen on him for a number of reasons but I find it ignorant just dismissing the relative achievements in his career. The fact he is being linked to premier league jobs as an Australian who has worked his way up the chain from his native country, building teams up to become league champions, is nothing to be sniffed at.
It’s not ignorance though it’s being realistic with where he’s at in his career and I don’t think that’s with a club of our stature. I respect your opinion though.

Then I guess I'm Mick from Basildon. I just think we should aim higher than someone managing in that league, if that makes me look Moronic then so be it.
That league had a club in the UEFA Cup final last year, and has had van Dijk, Wanyama and Tierney develop there before becoming top PL players.

The skepticism seems to be due to other failures such as Gerrard, but this ignores the fact that Gerrard didn't fail at Villa because he cut his teeth in the SPL: he failed because he's an arsehole no one likes.

Yeah this is a major concern for me. Playing lovely footy in the SPL is great but frankly everyone bar Celtic and Rangers is genuine League One standard (if that). It's astonishingly shit.

Ange's record in Europe is dreadful partly because his Celtic side lack quality, which isn't his fault, but also partly because every time they play decent opposition their press gets ripped apart and they're massively vulnerable in transition. In the SPL you don't have that problem - you can commit loads of players forward without having to worry too much about the counter because the standards of opposition is so poor (and even then, Celtic's defensive league record isn't particularly impressive).

He seems like a cool guy and his philosophy on football is spot on for us but I really worry about his ability to adapt to what is now probably the most tactically complex league in world football. I'm concerned top managers would employ build-up patterns which would run rings around Ange's press.

I would still go all out for Nagelsmann and let him choose the DOF. However, assuming that is out of the question then out of the remaining options I really don’t get the huge reservations with Ange.

Tottenham as we are right now needs a big character and someone who is going to breathe positivity into every area of the club.

His age is irrelevant and so, imo, is the number of titles he has won and experience in England. Enrique, Slot and pretty much every other candidate on that list is a risk for the same reasons.

We need to fix the culture of the club, we need positivity and we need someone who will get us on the front foot. If we can achieve these things then I honestly don’t care who the manager is.

Also, see the Pochettino thread before we got him in. There were a lot of the same comments about him that we’re seeing in here about Ange.
