Bissouma is no more a squad filler than madueke tbf, it’s probably somewhere in the middle, chelsea have too many cb’s for all of their new ones to be first choice.
Yeah but you've picked Chelsea's weirdest signing in Madueke and one of our (supposedly) better ones in Biss.
Biss was coming in to provide competition and rotation for Hojbjerg and Rodders...I don't think anyone really know why Madueke went to Chelsea, apart from a long and well paid contract.

You also have to compare the levels of both squads at the time because they had much more strength in depth that we did, with a higher level of quality.
Yet they spent much, much more money on more players than we did.

I feel that you may be missing the point I was making but if you really think Chelsea's recent recruitment is in any way comparable to ours, surely there are better relative comparisons than Bissouma Vs Madueke?

I think most managers would struggle to balance the Chelsea squad as it stands, so I find it a little hard to level too much criticism at someone like Potter for failing there.

A few years ago Ajax were a force to be reckoned with but these days they’ve lost their best players. They’re a shadow of their former selves. PSV are average and although Feyenoord look like becoming champions when you look at the calibre of players they’ve have may be 1 or 2 who look decent… as an example they play Jahanbakhsh as a wide forward. Whilst at Brighton he scored a stunning 2 goals in 52 games. I’m not playing down Slot’s achievements but the standard in the Dutch league or the quality of players isn’t what it once was. People will say they turned over Shakhtar Donetsk 7-1, they did but look at the state of their squad and circumstances (war), they’re nowhere near as good as they once were.
Not sure how you can take making a poor team of players better as a negative.

It’s funny we all joke on here about him being Graham xG Potter and in his final presser at Chelsea he said “If you look at the stats the shots the attacking actions we played a good game but people will look at the scoreline”

Yes Graham that is generally how it works on football people will check the score line and if their team hasn’t scored they won’t be best pleased 😂😅

Not for me thanks, I’d actually prefer Rodgers over Potter (not that I want either of them particularly tbh)
Where as I'd rather be rodgered than us get Rogers

Anyone else noticed skybet doesn't have a "Next Tottenham manager" market? Instead, it's "Tottenham manager first day 23/24 Premier League season"

Even the bookies have no faith Levy will have a new manager in place before the season starts!

Somehow this manager search just is worse than 2021. The fact we trusted a coach who had no badges to manage us in the cup final makes me sick.

Levy didn't sack Mourinho because of the league issue, he sacked him because it would look bad a manager that just won their first trophy in 13 years got sacked immediately or at the end of the season. So he rather us not win a trophy than win one. What happened next was 4 months of chaos

It feels like we are repeating history again

The problem is for the first time, Levy is now seen as someone as to avoid in the footballing world.

Sacking Mourinho has done more harm for this club then good and I don't think its fair since the likes of Chelsea have had their longest managerial reign since the ENIC takeover at 3 seasons(for the guy who won their first PL title) but its clear managers dont trust Levy with their careers

We now have sacked a manager with no replacement, we have a suspended DoF, we have a caretaker who will leave at the end of the season. We have a chairman who took a back seat who is the only person in their hierarchy left LOL to run things
Interesting you pinned this, cos I was just thinking how ‘un-desperate’ this feels now, in relation to that time … that’s why differing opinions are important to ponder….

Personally think De Zerbi needs a summer and full season at Brighton before being consider for a bigger job. Anyone we go for is a risk I don't know much about Slot but he's been in his job a couple years and doing very well. I'm still on the Amorim train myself, I've really enjoyed watching them play this season and gets his teams playing very well.

Not to say that you're wrong, I understand the sentiment, but I'd just want to add that you could argue that out of those three, De Zerbi has the most experience. In terms of games managed he's got most, and he has also done very well in three different countries (even if it's early days over here) while Slot has done well in two clubs in the Netherlands and Amorim in two clubs (but only half a season i Braga) in Portugal.

I'm going to make a case for Potter as I did in 2021 (doesn't duck for cover, but stands there covered in shit) and I get why people don't want him, especially now.

AND I would be happy with Slot, Nagelsmann, Poch, Gallardo or Postecoglou for various reasons, mainly that they play progressive, attacking, tactically-interesting football.

I think I have gone a bit mad with thinking who I want, who we should get, what are their strengths and weaknesses etc. And I think I am more at a point of who I definitely don't want (Rodgers / negative football disciple / someone thinking they're doing us a favour).

There are issues with everyone and things to be excited with most, but to make the argument for Potter, I'll leave it to Guardiola:

'I am a big fan of Graham Potter. From the first time at Swansea, it was a joy to analyse his teams but also a concern when you play them,' said Guardiola. 'His players have the courage to play, they all know what to do. The first thing I would tell my players is: 'We have to be at a high level against them.' 'They have runners high and wide, it does not matter if they are wing-backs, full-backs or wingers. And after that, they create spaces for people in the middle. They press aggressive, all the things I would like as a spectator. I identify with his teams.'

He goes on (from his first season at Brighton), 'Graham is one of the best English managers I have met in the country with all respect to the other ones. He is and will be a successful manager because I have noticed how he is as a human being and as a manager. I am a big fan of the managers who try to play their own way and not just wait for circumstances or one moment to win the game. Sometimes you need more time because the way he wants to try to play is attractive, is seductive but it’s not easy. I’m pretty sure next season if the club follow him, he is going to build.'

And this is Klopp on Potter moving to Chelsea:

'He's definitely one of the best. I respect what he did at Brighton and how he set the team up. Between football people, he's highly regarded,' said Klopp. 'I liked watching his Brighton team but didn't like playing them – he is a really good manager and his teams mirror his ability. I hope they appreciate what they have.'

And from me (hahaha): I loved watching Brighton play too and they rarely lost games by more than a goal and outplayed loads of big teams home and away, including beating City 3-2 after being 2-0 down...

He made mistakes at Chelsea and would need time (as will whoever our incoming manager is), but this three month break will do him good. I'm back on the Potter Train. Choo choo motherfuckers!

Not sure how you can take making a poor team of players better as a negative.

My point being the calibre of players currently in the Dutch league is of an average standard at best. The talent pool has been bled dry. Ajax used to walk the league but now there’s the big 3 fighting for the title and the other clubs who once used to be miles of the pace snapping at their heels, namely Alkmaar. Achieving success is now a lot easier than it used to be.

Poch represents himself so don't believe that for a second.

Although I wish it was true!

I've seen numerous interviews with him and he always just came across as a decent bloke to me. What has he done that makes him smug? Not saying he isn't; just genuinely curious as to where this has come from.
There was a post match interview when he was at Swansea. They'd just lost to Sunderland 2 or 3 0 and came out with something along the lines of "the home crowd came here tonight excited to see us as a team They'd heard so much about cos of the way we play football and I think they'll go home tonight knowing they've seen one of the best teams in the league."

It was said with no sense of irony and complete smugness

Why would SC posters consider Klopp or Peps opinion, when SC posters know best 😉

To be fair, his Swansea team played some great football considering their level. No more crazy than Conte or Mourinho, or any of our managers praising our performances despite losing.

I agree the whole recruitment thing is the key point about how Brighton have made it work with Potter and then seamlessly with de Zerbi. They have a system and style of play, the players are bought in to suit that. Once Potter was off, the new manager was bought in to make the most of what they already had, rather than just getting the next flavour of the month and then waste 18 months having to reshape the squad.
That’s where we need to be smarter, and that I think it what people are alluding to, get a plan, stick with it. It’ll be a touch start, but if we keep faith it will pay off and should be more sustainable. I remember when Santini went, Arnesen was very nonchalant about the change as he stated he was the constant who set the footballing ideology, the Head Coach would be chosen by him to execute that. Now that didn’t pan out right as he soon bolted also, but the theory was good.
That’s what we need to get back to. Choose a style and philosophy, then bring in both coaches and players that all fit the picture. Problem being, out DoF should be laying that out, and he can’t as he’s suspended. That’s why this will drag on. Sadly the only thing that will change that is if Stellini and Mason’s tenure collapses and we plummet down the table, only then will Levy stop sitting on his hands and make a decision.
Saw on here Brighton expected to lose Potter and some players so always have contingency plans. We are reactive, not proactive. Whilst Levy of looking upwards trying to emulate the big teams but on a budget, it’s actually teams below is that show how poorly run we are.
Oh the emboldened. Just to have the same at THFC
