Great, who is it exactly that fits how the club operates?
Managed it with a few over the years. Poch, Redknapp, Jol etc.

I'm sure there are candidates out there that would fit. And this is why we interview people. Same as any job.

Can we not put a filter on this thread that when our chairman is mentioned by name it gets automatically moved to the ousting thread. At this stage we all know his failings. All I'm interested in now is who the new manager is going to be.

Really? did you see how many players we signed for Conte. Plus allowing him to discard Gil, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Regi. If Levy really expected a coach just to make it work with the players we had then Conte was not the right coach for that.

Where have I said we don't sign players?

Following on from @Trix comment yesterday, that if this is not sorted very soon, I just think they might / have to give the gig to Mason. I would rather he get it than a semi washed up figure like Nuno etc
I know this is a well over used sentiment and I’ve never even considered it an option until now but if we were to appoint Mason I’d 100% take a sabbatical from following us as closely as I do now.
I hope I’m wrong but we appear to be and have appeared to be for some considerable time to be treading water in a pool of shit.

I currently have zero faith in Levy and ENIC improving the future and the outlook of our club. This current manager hunt is just the latest debacle in a long run of debacles. 🙁

I don't know if this JN news is true but the facts are with the size of the squad (players coming back from loans etc..) it's simply unrealistic to expect to yet again build a whole new team. Especially as the way the market is most prem teams are struggling to sell players.

Whoever we bring in has to be the right fit for the current squad. Yes, we need to strengthen in key positions - GK, CB, AM/WF - but I believe that would be happening regardless of who we appoint.
While this is true, why the hell is our chairman going out and getting Danjuma and Spence and further bloating the squad when a manager doesn’t want them?

If the job were to be given to Mason, would be interesting to see what his exact remit would be when he it comes to delivering on the pitch. Would he be expected to go straight in and compete for top 4 against the other top 6 teams and now Newcastle or would Levy accept he would be learning on the job and there is a chance he'd need to accept qualification for the EL/EC or even no Europe for a couple of seasons?

Much like the discourse
Absolutely mate.

I maybe very wrong but this is the first time in over 45 years of support our club that I’ve completely run out of hope that the right decisions are going to be made to put things right.
I absolutely love our club but the last couple of years or so have nearly broken me. Here’s still hoping. 🤞💙💙💙👍

Firstly, nobody knows what JN is asking for in terms of transfer input/control however I would've thought making it contractual is very, very difficult. How do you have an agreement in writing about the level of influence he has for player recruitment? I just don't see that being feasible unless he's asking for the final say, which won't (and shouldn't) happen.

It feels pretty damning IF he is asking for contractual comfort; to me, that says he doesn't trust Levy to stick to his word. Maybe he's heard from other people in football that he'll get him in the building then go back on promises.

Hopefully it's not as confrontational as that and he is seeking clarity and structural reassurances, but especially without knowing who the DoF is going to be, I'm not sure he can be blamed for setting his stall out.

You’d hope it would be a similar remit to that of Poch when he first joined. In that he had licence to make changes like cutting Kaboul, Adebayor and Capoue. Then some slack given results-wise so long as there were signs of progress.

However, I’d fear given the atmosphere at the club and fan base is worse than in 2014 and Mason does have the goodwill of fans that Levy would cop the criticism for poor performances and would wield the axe pretty quickly to try and get someone in to stem the tide.

Where have I said we don't sign players?

You said "Levy hopes to press some kind of reset button in his mind and expects the new manager to get more out of some of the junk in our squad whilst hoping the fans forget just how bad some of our players actually are"

Which isn't necessarily true with how much we've spent recently. Unless you know what the managers think of certain players I don't know how you can come to that conclusion.

Nothing against Mason (obviously) but if he gets the job I think there'd be some major knock on effects. I think Kane would try to force a move and we'd have no chance of adequately replacing him, or anywhere near. We'd end up shopping around for lesser players, because even if we cashed in big time on Kane, Levy wouldn't let Mason spend it and players wouldn't want to come anyway. I don't see any way he can get the job and it not be a massive backwards step. He'd be strongarmed into using what we already have yet again. I'm all for giving Nagelsmann what he wants, or any number of other candidates ahead of Mason because the job is way too big for him right now.

The original post I replied to mentioned us being in trouble if the likes of Tanganga, Sanchez and Dier around and Davies are, hence me mentioning some players we seem to persist with in the hope they will somehow come good. Never suggested we don't spend.
