I kind of like the idea of a creating a leadership vacuum and then rebuilding new leadership under Ange. I don't feel all that well served (from a leadership only perspective) by our current crop of leaders (Hugo, Dier, Kane, Hojberg). I guess who knows, maybe we would have been twice the mess without them the last 4-5 years, but there's something appealing to having a new set of voices. Would feel early days Poch to me.

If Kane leaves there is only one player that is being profiled as a leader from the manager and players. So it would be a safe bet to expect Bissouma to become captain if Kane leaves.
I’d be happy with that. Think he’s about to have a big season for us

Surprised at all the calls for Sonny. If you just want a face for the camera's and media fine, but he's no leader on the pitch for me. If it's not Kane(I think it will be) it has to be Bentancur, Bissouma or at a push Romero imo. I think if RB was fit he'd be the natural choice.

Why ? Is it because we stereo type Son to be a nice chap and happy good fellow ?

Son has been captain of his country since 2018, where he has carried the weight of his nation creditably well....always delivering when required. Always pushed his mates for more.
Son on the outside could look like a relaxed footballer, as we all know, he is also serious on football, having decided to push back his marriage after retirement so he is focussed on his game.

Son is every bit credible & experienced leader player.

And his first interview this season, he seems he knows he is going to be the captain...having spoken out on how his role should change from this season on leading younger players.

Son is the only standout candidate IMO if Kane also leaves. Bentancur is good shout - but its more out of a hope than we know for sure he can lead the players.

Has to be Son now tbh.

Captain of his national team and has stuck with us through thick and thin.

You can't give it to Bentancur or Bissouma over him.

💯 rip it up start it again type of thing.

I’ve had some backlash on this in the past mostly around Hugo but I’ve felt for a long time that our leadership group has been very poor and part of the reason why we didn’t get over the line under Poch and/or after.

Lloris,Kane,Dier,PEH(later on), just not really up to it leadership wise.

I think Bissouma would be a fantastic choice for our new chapter, I’d not mind Maddison or Bentancur as VC’s.

The players all love Bissouma and he’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet under Ange and I love having a CM or CB as captain, I think GK’s and Strikers generally are not good positions for captains.

We shall see.

I’m sure Son could do a good job but if this is a 4 year project under Ange I want a younger player to be captain than 30(29) yr old Son.

Bissouma is not a guaranteed starter. He needs to worry about playing well & cementing his place first . Son is the automatic starter, probably gets the respect of the dressing room and the opponents too.

If we are playing 4-3-3 then Bissouma, Bentancur and Maddison are our best 3 by a country mile and given Bentancur is also injured for a while then Bissouma is all the more right now a guaranteed starter, but for me he will be long-term anyway, he’s absolutely class, most of us can see that and Ange will know that.

Bissouma for one reason or other did not have the impact last season.
Let Bissouma show whats he got and show us in some big games. I wouldnt put any pressure on him till he becomes a regular this season. Let him prove his worth in big games & moments and am sure he will then be recognised.

Yea I see your point of view also, we shall see what Ange decides 👍

If Kane does go, I'm certainly leaning towards it being Bissouma.
I'd not really considered him as captain material but his enthusiasm from the first day of pre-season, combined with the recent quotes about him, have turned me round to thinking that he may well be the stand out choice.

Obvs Kane is the captain if he stays but I'm just not convinced on the idea of Sonny, as much as I love the lad, so Biss is the one for me...well, for today at least! 😁

Bang on the money, mate.

Kane and Lloris are very much 'lead by example' types.

Whilst there isnt necesarily a huge issue with that, if they are not really in a game or in Hugo's case, costing us goals, it fails you in the cup-winning matches.

France won the WC because they had multiple big characters. Hugo was captain cause he wouldnt clash with those egos and was trusted by all. An exceptional professional but not a vocal leader.

To get over the line, you need characters who are Messi level of ability - they can just take the game on - or Jordan Henserson types who are constantly communicating, encouraging and organising.

Kane is more of the Messi type but he isnt going to beat 2 or 3 players and inspire a CL final turnaround in that way.

Liverpool beat us in the CL because they had more vocal leaders on the pitch.

Madrid beat Liverpool because they had players like Bale who can do something out of the Blue.

I am certain had we have had either of those against Liverpool, we would have won.

Unfortunately, the 'Poch-group' was a bit too nice with each other. Players who raised standards by giving 100% for the coach who was seen as a father figure.

The more they had to fall back on their own ability to lead and they started to go backwards.

Having said that I do think Jan was a good leader. Vocal but calm and intelligent. Injuries badly effected him unfortunately.

I do think Bentancur seems like the kind of fighter who will constantly communicate. Hopefully Vicario and Bissouma can be strong on this respect too.

For me Bentancur all day long. Was leading the team with Kane last year. Bentancur and Vice/"dressing room boss" Bissouma.

We're hearing Postecoglu is impressed with Bisouma, if that's true its very likely he'll be made captain and if he's made captain we'll know that's true. I'm certainly getting a year zero vibe from Postecoglu, all bets are off and he's doing it his way building from the ground up so whatever has gone before will have no bearing on it at all. Bisouma it is for me.

And TBH he's quite forthcoming about any rumours linking him elsewhere. We all know things change, people change. He could be leaving January or next summer, but at least in any current moments he never shuns away from stopping rumours from escalating with cryptic answers or behaviours. All these despite English not being his first language. His rumours never seem to last more than 2 weeks.
