You could say that's crap planning then. The pavements are more than adequate (or at least they would be) if the buses were allowed to go up and down the High Road as per usual, ferrying the crowds away far more speedily, and thinking about it, what's to stop TFL creating a bus lane in both directions between Lansdowne Road and Edmonton, clearing the way for buses, or even a re-introduction of the old 'Football Special' bus service which used to run between WHL and Manor House?

And another thing...when I attended the recent Spurs v Palace match, I was on a bus approaching the stadium from Finsbury Park, believing stupidly that I just could hop off the bus and meet my friends outside the ground as usual, but ALL the traffic was stopped at Lansdowne Road, so everyone had to get off the bus and walk the three or four hundred yards up to the stadium. I asked a few (very unhappy) people WTF was going on but nobody knew anything. Once again, somebody sodding about with the transportation service for absolutely no reason. The fans, as usual, come last.

.

errrr because there simply isn't the space on the pavement to facilitate thousands of people descending on mass.

Re bus diversions & road closures, all the info has been publicly available for ages , all was discussed with local councils TFL & police, digital booklet available here

I've read page 18 of the booklet produced by the club which is dedicated to the bus services on a match day. It tells us all very professionally how the bus diversions on a match day will work. No buses will pass the stadium up to two hours before kick off and one hour after the final whistle, causing all sorts of inconvenience to thousands of people travelling in both directions before and after the match, as I detailed in my last post.

Also, it tells us everything, but I didn't notice any part of the brochure inviting us to submit our comments (maybe I missed it) and I can understand why. Any comments or criticisms would serve no purpose as nothing can be done now as everything has been agreed by all parties. (I say all parties, but of course, I'm leaving out the poor bastards who rely on the buses to get them to and from the stadium. All those mug punters who maybe are unable to walk very far).

Of course, it's far too late now to do anything about it but it just makes the experience of getting to and from our incredible new stadium a much more difficult exercise for many people, than it should be.

Totally agree it does cause total disruption to local residents many of whom have no interest in football or the club but the diversions are in place and that is what people will have to live with. Who had the major say in the safety issues of closing off the High Rd is open to debate but possibly part of the original planning permission granted by the council.

Of course back in the forties fifties and early sixties when 60000 crowds were quite regular the High Rd was fully open.

When there was alot less vehicles on the road and more people lived local...

Vehicles on road in uk
1949 - 4m
1959 - 8m
1969 - 14m
2019 - 34m

That is very true but they could close the High Rd to all traffic as they are doing now apart from buses.
The High Rd in 1948 after a game but doubt they would ever get a nice orderly queue like they used to.

That is a fantastic point, and one which hadn't occurred to me. It would have been far easier to do that than send the entire bus service around Northumberland Park and Lansdowne Road. I'm sure. Further evidence that all the relevant parties involved in the planning have placed the transport users who just want to get to and from the stadium as quickly as possible before and after a match, last.

Thanks for that.
