New Captain Needed

I think its time we changed the current captain and inject some leadership into the team. We know that King can't play every game and looking at every other club in the Premiership, the captain is someone that plays nearly every game.
I think Woodgate should be given the armband, OK he can be injury prone, but he has played ALL our games so far.
Everyone can see there is lack of leadership on the field, so lets sort this out first.

We do need a captain, but I dont think Woody is exactly ideal, at least not on the pitch. We need someone who barks orders and never thinks he is wrong, 'my way or the highway' sort of thing.

I dont think King should be captain ever time he returns because it can disrupt things, but these days people talk about having 11 captains on the pitch - we have 0.

yesterday when hull players kept cheating and diving he told bentley who was taking the throw in not to give it back to them...... whilst plastic captain jenas was day dreaming in the centre circle as usual

Yep Woody should be the 1st choice captain. tbh I was bemused at why he was overlooked for Jenas, who imo has very little attributes of a captain on the pitch. Maybe in the dressing room he is a stand up guy but I just don't see it on the pitch.

Barry would be ideal. Unfortunately, I still think he'll go to Liverpool in January. If they don't go back in for him, and he's keen to come to his supposed boyhood club, I would be absolutely thrilled to get him.

Every channel I watched after the Hull game said there was no leadership on the pitch. I'm no Jenas fan, but I'm stumped for an alternative. Maybe Woodgate - a bit left field, but if attitude on the field is anything to go by, we could do worse than let O' Hara have a go. Or Hutton when he comes back.

The sad thing is, this isn't a recent development. Even with King playing, he's not exactly a shout at the troops and rolleck them for mistakes or not trying. We need a Danny Blanchflower, Dave Mackay, Graham Roberts kind of warrior. And I don't know where we're going to get them.

Chelsea have Terry and Essien. United have Scholes and Ferdinand. Liverpool have Gerrard and Carragher. Even West Ham have Parker. Bolton have Nolan. Fulham have Bullard. We have........????????????

Woody is the obvious choice for me, but I think Spurs feel they have to 'reward' the longer standing players rather than choosing who would be the best captain. King sadly shouldn't be it as it's impossible to have an influence when you only play half the games.

What has this club and its supporters come to. The worst player in the team and the least influencial cannot be considered for captain. It happened once and we lost... Lets not make the mistake again...

He is one of the main reasons we are underperforming so badly and have done whenever he is in contention. Look at how we got to the final of the cc... He was in africa.... Look at all the games we have played with him in the middle of midfield and the amount we have lost. If you cant be arsed to look then just click here to see the stats I compiled at the end of last season... Its clear to see. (p.s - These stats are going to be much worse now after all the rest of the games we have lost with him in cntral midfield)

He is a very poor footballer who happens to be very fit and agile... He should and never should have been first option playing constant 90 minute games. Carrick he is definitely not.

I have the impression that maybe he has a lurid photo of Levy, Jol and Ramos in a bath together or something because no manager in his right mind would pick him game after game for 90 minutes... Its crazy!

Someone mentioned Scott Parker, he's one of my favorite players in the Premiership. I'd absolutely love it if we had him at Spurs. It was such a shame when he went to Chelsea, we were after him as well at the time I believe.

those are great stats. if you look at "wins with Zoks" vs "wins without", the one thing that stands out is the difference between the two is basically down to the mini-run we had last November and December after Ramos took over. Zokora didnt get many starts, and we won some games. the rest of the year its basically a wash. you say we had the run because Zoks wasnt in the line-up (I think thats what you're saying). Im saying its probably a lot more complicated than that.

I agree, but what do you do with King???

King is a luxury player - he can cover in UEFA for Corluka this season, then re-asses him again at the end of December, if there's a chance he can keep going then see if he can get a run of games together in the new year. Otherwise bring in a replacement in Jan (or back-up to Corluka if he's made CB his spot) and tell King he has to prove his fitness if he wants a start.
