i keep reading comments about the size of our wage bill, but it strikes me that the presence of Mason, Bentalab, Kane and other home grown talents in the first 11 will have greatly reduced our costs, versus the days when the likes of Bale and VDV were running round the paddock .
Problem is we are still paying Ade, BAE, Kaboul, etc even tho they aren't playing.

He has a decent cross, works his nuts off, and City are under pressure to put more Brits on the pitch. It looks to me like they shoehorn him in at winger, and with England he was also playing with a younger Gerrard and Carrick.

His best seasons to date IMO were when he was playing CM for Villa. There's a very good reason City dropped so much cash on him in 2010 to bring him in after those years spent playing central midfield.

It's nearly 5 years since he regularly featured as a central midfielder. At 29 years of age he doesn't fit our transfer policy either.

I'm sure he could still perform fantastically as a central midfielder, and with his kind of fitness/professionalism and the fact he's allegedly never had a drop of alcohol in his life, he could likely provide top form until 34-35.

With his leadership ability and consideration of the above, I'd happily take him if he refuses a contract. We could absolutely his use attributes in the middle of the pitch. A winner, a leader, and a hardass worker who also is just a good all-around midfielder.

But you are likely right, I don't see Levy allowing us to pursue the option given his age and I'm sure pretty hearty wage demands, even if he were to accept a drop to come play regularly for us.

All three will be due a significantly improved contract before the end of the season that will put even more pressure on FFP.

We won't be getting Schneiderlin, simple. United or scum. How often do we beat them to signings?

Dunno mate, how often do we compete with them for signings? From recent history I can only remember Berbatov, Carrick & Bale, who United were after, then Vertonghen, who Arseanal were after.................. I see your point  :D

I really don't think United or scum needed those players at that time anywhere near more than they need Morgan now. Let's say utd were in desperate need for a striker or scum desperate for a CB; chances are Berba and Jan would never have played for us.

That's just down to opinion, which is fair enough. I was merely pointing out that we did compete for players with the clubs that were listed, and we ended up with the players (y)

Other than transfer fees and wages I think the FFP has had the biggest affect on us in the sense teams want larger chunks or the full fee up front, something Utd and co can do, but not us. Find a young sort after talent whom wants to sign for us but Levy offers £15m over 5 years, with another big European side offering it in one or 2 payments, we'll end up losing out.

Gallas ,VDV and Davids all over 29 but shitloads of winning mentality.

All leaders and had spent their latter years playing in their best position, Milner hasn't.

I wouldn't be against bringing him in on a free to offer competition for our wide players but he's not what we need in central midfield.

Rumors of him going to Arsenal in an [agreed] deal of 25m. Being reported by a couple outlets on Twitter.

Have to say I'd be a bit disappointed in him if he left Southampton (for any Prem top 4 rival team, including us) at this point in the season, they've done fantastically well and are as much in the top 4 race as any club that would buy him.

Agree. Hope he stays and Arsenal don't get him.

Secret footballer said deal for the summer.
But here is the thing, if Morgan wants to break into the French team does he want to compete with this many midfielders:
Ramsey, wiltshit, ozil, carzola, arteta, flamini, ox, walnut?
Recognizing Sanchez and the French dimwit are upfront.
Seems risky.
Maybe he banks on flamini and arteta being moved on ox, walnut, carzola and ozil on the flanks and Ramsey and wiltshit being injured.

25 seems like a lot

I wish you were right, but he'll play, easily. He'd honestly be perfect for them. Give them a tough tackler and worker that they're lacking, but then also a player dynamic enough to push them on and spread the ball to their pacey players. I fear he'd do very well for them.
