Tottenham set for January rebuild with Schneiderlin, Rodriguez and Albiol all targeted

Mauricio Pochettino is demanding a squad overhaul at White Hart Lane with several big names set to be shifted off the wage bill

Mauricio Pochettino is demanding a new spine for his struggling Tottenham team –and the White Hart Lane board want to make it happen in January.

Boss Pochettino has told chairman Daniel Levy, technical director Franco Baldini and new recruitment expert Paul Mitchell that he needs a new centre-back, central midfielder and centre forward if the club are to challenge for a Champions League place in the foreseeable future.

And the Spurs board will back the Argentine, with a net mid-season budget of around £20million, which they hope will be boosted by player sales.

Baldini is attempting to off-load Emmanuel Adebayor, Jan Vertonghen, Aaron Lennon and Mousa Dembele – all players they believe could attract significant fees to fund Pochettino’s re-building job.

Spurs sources are adamant that the head coach and board are united in their understanding that the squad needs a major overhaul – after Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with Crystal Palace left them languishing in 10th place.

They realise that the process will take two transfer windows but are expecting major changes, in and out of the Lane, next month.

Pochettino hopes to sign his former Southampton players Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez - with Spurs encouraged by the fact that the Saints have yet to tieFrench midfield man Schneiderlin to a new contract.

Would be gobsmacked if this happened in January, but there's no doubt we need to get in the players Pochettino wants.

Obviously I'd love us to get MS.

He wasn't too flash when we played against Everton.

I don't get what all the fuss is about.

Dembele and Ade I would have no qualms about saying goodbye to. Lennon and Vertonghen however is another story.

I really hope all this is true. MS would be perfect in our midfield and rodriguez may find form again, but don't honestly think these three players will be enough to challenge on any front. We'll see. Just want the bad apples gone for a start.

If we get rid of Vertonghen and Lennon we're fucking idiots, but I wouldn't be surprised. I have zero faith in any football decisions we make these days.

Yay... [sarcasm intended].

Surely if we're to bring in MS, we need to move on at least one of Dembele, Capoue and Paulinho.

MS, Bentaleb, Mason and another should form the core for those two positions.

Personally I'd be very excited to see a partnership of MS and Bentaleb.

I think Dembele is the most likely to go, I just don't see him changing his style and although he's got some insane ability, which most of us admire, he can't harness it in the right way. He just can't move the ball quickly enough, first time etc, And you need to be able to do that when teams come to sit deep at WHL. He's a good option away from home but he hinders us playing at home.

I could see Mark Hughes coming in for him.

We have a challenge to find buyers for our current players who we don't need anymore.

Kaboul and Ade are out of contract in the summer. We could get a small fee for them in January if we're lucky but more likely to loan them out and save on the wages.

With Yedlin on his way in we could look to sell Naughton or Chiriches. Naughton has played quite well recently and Chiriches is rumoured to be wanted by some decent clubs abroad so there's a little potential there.

Paulinho is still a Brazilian international and reportedly wanted by Juventus and Corinthians so we might not recoup the total amount we paid for him but could still get a decent fee.

Dembele as a Belgian international might also command a decent fee.

But adding it up I don't see us generating enough cash to get all 3 of these players.

How long is Morgan's contract?

2017.

Imagine they'll sell him this summer, assuming they don't make the CL.

Surely our best hope to get MS is to clear the decks in Jan - then go in with an early bid in May.

This is why the suggested Rabiot loan deal makes sense.

Could move on players, and have greater flexibility in the summer.
