The only one out of the keepers linked that makes the most sense as I’d imagine Foster and Ramsdale would both want to be starting.

At last though we seem to be targeting a home grown 2/3rd choice keeper like lots of us have wanted.

Personally, I'd get rid of Gazzaniga and get some cash in for him. It's obvious he was poch's man.

It’s unfortunate that the market for keepers is typically rubbish other than for the top ones.

Personally can’t see Gazzaniga being sold for more than a few mil if there’s even any interest out there.

Gazzaniga has always been known for his distribution, and as Mourinho doesn't like the faff-about-at-back crap that Poch did, it's even more likely that we will like him for his passing ability.

I don't really understand the underlying dislike towards him tbh - he's got a great attitude and he just gets strung up unreasonable expectations.

He’s too good looking.

Daily Mail said:
The keeper could be available for as little as £1million, with only one year remaining on his contract.

We could do a lot worse than bring in Bettinelli as a 3rd choice HG keeper for 1m.

Austin and Whiteman both should be allowed to develop on loan.

Gazzaniga is a brilliant back-up but agree 2/3rd choice keepers should be homegrown if possible especially 3rd choice that is a no brainer.

Brilliant? He’s error prone and was piss poor when Lloris was out injured. His low shot saving and decision making isn’t good enough.

Some people on here have an obsession with homegrown players, hence the antipathy towards Gazzaniga.

No. People wonder why we have three foreign keepers taking up spots when it is unnecessary, especially the third keeper. It’s pretty obvious.

Thats reads like something out of a far right brochure. Why does it matter if they are foreign? If they aren't very good then fine, just say so. Whats their nationality got to do with it?

WTF are you on about? Do you not understand clubs can only have a certain amount of non homegrown players in the squad. What’s the point in one being used up by a foreign player, when it could go to a kid at the club and that place be used by a foreign player that can benefit the outfield positions to a larger degree.

It’s pretty obvious and has been debated on here for years as being a strange situation.

Im fully aware of the HG rule thanks. Of all the prevailing issues with the squad, foreign back up keepers is by far the least important imo.

Disagree. Have a HG second keeper, who isn't gonna get much playing time, gives us more options for out field players who will see plenty of playing time. It's these details that will make the difference imo

Not necessarily. Look at how much game time Vorm and Gazzaniga (between then, as 2nd keeper) have had. Not least including the fact that Lloris has had a couple of injuries in that time.

I'd rather have the best available players in each position, sympathetic but irrespective of the HG rule.

I'm sure we are not in danger of exceeding the HG rule so it's not important for a 2nd keeper, I would only agree on the 3rd.

I mean, who else in the top 6 even has a HG second keeper?
Chelsea? No (Caballero/Kepa)
City? No (Edersen/Bravo)
United? No (de Gea/Romero)
Liverpool? No (Allison/Adrian)
Us? No (Lloris/Gazzaniga)

Arsenal are the only team, based on Martinez being with them since youth.

It's not a thing to get hung up over. I was more frustrated by us having ones like Llorente where he'd take up a space and then Poch would never use him. The spot cover Kane is one I'd like to see a HG/Academy player using, not least because that's where Kane came into the squad.

We are allowed to register 17 non HG players max. Having third choice goalie, a position that will unlikely play even one league match, taking up one of those spots limits us elsewhere on the pitch. There’s nothing far right about it. People would just prefer to ensure we aren’t in a position where we can’t full strengthen outfield due to an unnecessary allocation in a role that gets very few minutes.

I think it's more the case of having 3 non-HG keepers than just having 2.

Because in that case City have Scott Carson, Liverpool have Lonergan, Chelsea have Cumming, and United have Grant.

So, yeah, they've all gone with the approach that having 2 keepers (of any HG status) and then a third that is HG.

Which is understandable. We already had registration issues this year in the CL because of having too many non-HG players so it's pretty understandable why using 3 slots on keepers is less than ideal.
