I do feel with our midfield options it almost feels like a choice between whether you play the 2 players with the most ability which in my opinion would be Winks / Ndombele or the most balanced choice which is a deep lying playmaker and a defensive midfielder which as you say will probably be Dier and Ndombele. Don't see that changing unless we adjust to a midfield 3 as I can consider dele part of a front 4.

A balanced team is always more important.

I love Poch but the time was right for a change

However, you have to acknowledge that without his transformation of the club and its perception, we would never have been able to appoint someone like Mourinho

Ironic

One good thing about Jose for the fans is he has more leaks than the titanic, I've never read so much insight.
I read that part of the Spurs/Amazon/Jose arrangement is that he'll explain on camera some of his tactical decision making. Can't wait.

Playing all the players with the best ability hardly ever makes the best football team. The best example of this being England under Sven. You always need maestros and water carriers.

Agree absolutely, which is why It's going to be interesting to see if we can fit in all of Ndombele, Lo Celso and Dele at the same time. Not a bad problem to have but it'd be a shame if we can't find a balanced approach to having all of them in at the same time.

I personally think Lo Celso and Ndombele coming in for Lucas and Winks would make our best side in that formation we played on Saturday. I like Lucas but he is a very erratic and individual player for me, although that could be partly because he never gets a run in the team.

This is still so surreal for me, this is a guy who I've grown up hating, criticising, laughing at, despising his managerial style, called him every swear word under the sun and was adamant that he'd never be a Spurs manager to actually being enchanted by him and having a man crush and believing that he's gonna bring us joy and win us some titles over the next few years, it's just utterley bizarre.

Know what else will surprise you ? I have spent my time here, hating, laughing and despising you yourself. ;)

I wouldnt say I'm enchanted by you, but I do have a bit of man crush on you myself over your last few posts since Jose's came in.

Utterly bizzare too :)

Absolutely this. Hopefully Jose does the same thing and when he leaves the next guy we bring in is from the top table.

No mitigating circs, no mid season changes, not a hint of a bit of a punt on potential but a top drawer, ready-made looking to win now heavyweight.

Going for the same finite resources on equal footing with the rest. No wonder the rest hope it fails hard and fast.

He obviously doesn’t have much choice, but I can’t believe Mourinho is happy with the whole Amazon thing.

I actually think that he is, Mourinho loves being in the public eye - he's been doing lot of adverts and of course punditry work, even in the training sessions he's very media friendly which is why I don't think he'll be bothered by a few extra cameras around the ground, whatever paints him in a good light I guess.

yeah I suppose with all this “new, improved Jose” stuff I’ve forgotten how much he loves himself :D.

He might look at it like if he can win something on camera this first season it would look great for him and his future job prospects, and they won’t be here next season when he’s aiming to truly compete

One of the reasons why I'm warming to Jose is his magnanimity concerning Poch. When Poch finally comes to the Lane as an opposition manager (hopefully in a CL semi final), he will get an obscene amount of love from the fans. Some managers could go full Trump, but I think Jose is confident enough to not feel threatened by that.

Ndombele and Dier will be out first choice CM 2, no doubt about it.

Big Mo will still be great for coming on to see out games under pressure. Saturday aside, I'm sure JM will use him for exactly that.

Not so fast, the ball to Alli for the 1st goal was sublime.

However I see where you are coming from, I love Tanguy as well as Winksie.

Interesting comments from Jose on Sissoko. I love what Sissoko gave us last season but it is music to my ears. He's a squad player at best for where we're aiming IMO.

“What made me [start Winks and Dier] was the positional play of the four attacking players,” Mourinho told BBC Sport.

“I needed one midfielder that was more positional and I needed one midfielder that was more a passer of the ball.

“Of course, when I see Moussa, he is a very good player but he is very different than my needs."

"I need that stability from Dier and I need the kid to move the ball faster, also positionally and also to find the attacking players in the positions we want them to find the ball.”

Hopefully Mourinho sees Ndombele as the first choice passer. Winks and Ndombele is good competition for that role if this becomes a regular setup. We'd just need competition for DM to complete the midfield options.

Really encouraged by what I'm seeing from our new manager so far.

I said yesterday I didn't think he'd like him. His passing isn't good enough for one.

Him and Poch always had a good relationship. However, I think he knows that if he came in bad mouthing Poch, the Spurs fans would have another reason to dislike him.

He is treading very carefully with the fans. You could even see it after the West Ham game - he sort of came over, applauded the crowd but stood quite a distance away and just watched Son/Alli embrace the fans.

He knows he is a former Chelsea boss and he knows that at one point a lot of us hated him, hence why I think he is being very cautious with the fans.

I think Lucas will flourish under Jose.
