Sissoko was in the wrong position as well for the first goal but mainly it was an insane cross from KDB.
Thats the thing really. They attack so well. The only thing you can really do is compress the space as much as possible. That's what we did after 2-2 and did much better defensively than before and even almost got in a few times on the counter. In the future maybe we need to try this approach more, particularly when away from home.

The problem with the first half is we didn't really have a plan B. We needed a bit more pace. Or, dare I say it, a Llorente. just someone we could play a little more direct to.

Yes and Sissoko did not work on the wing. It was much better with him in the center. He should not cover space he should play close to the opponent. Much better in the second half. I did not understand why we did not start with Lucas to be able to counter more.

Sky had it as 46% to us. Who gave us 27%?
Did they? My Forza app said 73% to them but if Sky had it at 46% then that is probably correct
One could have been for when the ball was in play and the other for the full 90.
Pretty sure there are 2 different ways to work out possession, iirc Opta do something based on a ratio of successful passes as opposed to timing it as they say its usually accurate enough and easier/less error prone than timing who has possession. So could be down to that

Good point from a nervous performance. City move the ball from back to front very quickly unlike us. So frustrating watching us pass it across the back only to give it away. I think KWP made a couple of mistakes, but also got us out of trouble on occasions. He’s young, keen and will get better and I think could be a quality player. Sterling gave him some invaluable lessons in marking and awareness that will only improve him. Didn’t play well but came away with a point, I’ll take that.

If you can toe punt the ball at a player from 6 yards away to get a penalty then that’s not skill. The ball glancing of Laportes arm isn’t skilful but Jesus’s touch and finish was.

That's not what the new rule is saying hence us not getting the penalty after Tobys shot against Villa. The new rule is stating that if the ball comes into contact with an attacking players arm or hand in an action resulting in a goal then that goal shall be disallowed. Punting the ball onto a defenders arm will thus not result in any more penaltys than it already does

Thing about this new rule, that man city player went in for the header against Skipp. Skipp's close marking has either made the player take his eye off the ball for a millisecond, or think about a boot to the face. Who knows

The definite about it is that if the ball didn't strike his hand then it would have been behind Gabriel Jesus instead of rolling into his path. Whilst I know I don't like the decision as I'm old school, the laws of the game now determine that it's a foul. So in short....... Get it right up you pep ya wee shinetop **** ??

If the ball does not strike Laporte,s arm the ball does not go to Jesus it instead rolls to relative safety .
I cannot see the controversy but it is City and the world and its dog has their tongue up city arse proverbially.
We will get our dose of VAR going against us I am sure I just wish the media people would give it a rest.

Is anything other than "Fuck yeah" necessary? Away to the best team. Got a point. Cost them 2.

Cheers mate. Pretty up front. It's true - I can sense everyone wants to get to September and plough on with the season. Until then, Erikson, Rose and Toby will be a bit distracted (subconsciously at least)

Might well be wrong, but IMHO this is all about Eriksen. I don't think Rose is going anywhere, and I think that the situation with Toby is actually quite clear - he'll see out his contract and leave next summer. Which sucks, but it doesn't really create any uncertainty as I imagine everybody at the club knows that's what's happening.

Eriksen on the other hand could well still go if we get a decent offer from a club he'd find acceptable. And because of that I don't think his head is quite right at the moment and the whole will he/won't he is probably a bit unsettling for the rest of the squad.

I think we should have learned from how many games we lose when we play against the top 6. When you go to their places we need to see the draw as improvement and the aim. Not many teams win on these grounds and we should stop setting up defensively the same as when we expect to have the lions share of the ball. When they attack they nearly always seemed to have a man over on the opposite side and it was the same when we played there in the champions league.

The fact it’s city makes it so much sweeter. The fact they’ve been undone by something they can’t yet buy is just so ironically perfect. May a giant sinkhole open up underneath the etihad and make the north’s biggest plastic landfill site.

Nice to get your take on things, thanks. Someone else posted earlier echoing this view of things.

Alastair Gold has been Tweeting Poch's post match presser. The concensus is he's very unhappy! But that's social media for ya.... ???

City got a dodgy VAR pen against us in 1st leg last season. Seems to have been forgotten...prob because they missed it.

As ridiculous as it is, imo the handball rule as it is HAS to stand. If you go down the 'was it intentional, wasn't it' school of thought you open it up to interpretation and that will inevitably lead to controversy.
Once its been done for a few seasons it'll be the norm.
We'll get shafted by VAR before long and Man city will benefit from it. And when that happens we'll all agree as far as the letter of the law stands the correct decision was reached.

I really wish Sissoko would be given the credit he's due as a CM. Winks is not as good. He's decent, but Sissoko offers us more from the centre and should partner Ndombele. Sanchez needs to play and was poor today for the first half, but improved. Our general defending was ridiculous. All eyes on the ball all the time, no one picking up their attackers for much of the match. It was genuinely shocking. KWP was ok, but hugged in too tight exactly like Trippier started doing and was overlapped constantly because of it. Winks did not defend properly, Eriksen never defends. Lamela or Eriksen, not both. Moura should have started.
