I also thought Redknapp moved him from a #10 to LM; not deep (like he plays for Croatia in a 5 man midfieler) further forward.

Modric never played in a 5 man midfield for Croatia (until last week).

He played exclusively in the middle of a 4-4-2.

At Dinamo Zagreb he often played on the left or middle of a 4-2-3-1.

While I do like the guy, the thing I'm happiest about is the fact that we've tied down someone that the management have clearly earmarked as the man to build our side around. That means continuity, which means familiarity and understanding between the players, which eventually leads to the sort of flowing, exciting and eye pleasing football we all crave.

Couldn't agree more! Throw in the adjective "successful" and we've got just what we're looking for!

If you think about it....if we were really stubborn, he is locked with us until he is 30! Thats like through his peak (26-28) and up until prob the very start of his decline or 1 year away from it.

Almost forgot bale signed a new one. Was 4 years though :( He'll be 24 by then and still yet to reach his peak. Guess though its all about the club coming first. If we progress, there is no reason why anyone should not want to sign new deals.

These things are all fluid though, contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on if the player isn't happy and believes the club is on the up.

Remember Fabregas signed an 8 year deal with the scum but a few years ago...

reckon Luca could go on to be a modern day Spurs legend a la Ardiles.... just needs a cup final record.

That will come when Mr Mourinho gets fed up with Real and decides to achive thangs with his boyhood club

Well I was one to show massive amounts of worry that we might still lose Luka to United because they could double his salary. Who knew we could? Glad that my worry was all for naught. Love to be the idiot who didn't believe.

Yes, DP, we were looking at you:grin:

Lukizzle Modrizzle is definitely the bizzle.

Him and Bareth Gale signing on for a bit longer is very shrewd and very clever from the powers that be. The speed in which they've done it, so soon after the season, is very good news for us.

I not particularly excited about Luka signing a six year deal or any of our players signing new deals, contracts aren't worth anything these days. If a player wants to leave then he'll leave, contract or not.

Just being realistic, so many times a player says he wants to leave then the club says he has a contract blah blah and then soon after the player ends up leaving.

But we as a club can demand a lot more if he is approached and wants to leave. Plus the mere fact hes put pen to paper shows that he believes we are the club he wants to spend the foreseeable future with.

I personally think its fantastic news.

If nothing else, it saves the club worrying about hearing any mention of that fellow called Bosman, for at least 5 years.

Plus, he's one of the first top players we've rewarded with a large payrise to compete with all but the richest clubs out there. He's done well for us and in 2 years got a double your money deal, everyone's happy. It sends out a good signal to other potential signings, too.

It's no being realistic, it's being unduly pessimistic!

This.

And the fact that he has just 'momens' go given an interview where he says he never hadany intrest in going anywere else, and he believeshe can fulfill his ambitions (yeah, even I got a shock at that one:grin:) with us. This is substantialy different to The Bulgar, in every way.

Indeed, ig we g all the way bk to Teddy, even though the Mncs took him from us, he actually made a statement beforehand that if the board they wee prepared to meet his ambitions he would stay...and they said nothing.

I think that shows that solongas te club (Mr. Levy:shrug:) is shoing playrs that we intend to be competitive at the to end we won't have too many problem...Carrick didn't force his way out, the club decided it was good business, only The ular really force his own way out.
