Great great news. I doubt there will be more important signings this summer than this one.

Wonder if this (finally) sends out the right messages across Europe. We will keep onto our best players to get to the next level!

Firstly, the likes of United will think twice about whether they can pilfer our best players (and turn them into pap).

But also on the flip side... players that we target as potential signings will look and think "well maybe I can go there and not have to worry about whether the better players will be sold" - I'm sure players look at things like this, security and building for the future (well, I'm sure the players we could do with will look at this - the money mercenaries can look elsewhere!).

This was why qualifying for the CL was vital. This is the best signing we are going to make this summer. Absolutely fucking outstanding news.

Brillant news nearly jumped out of my seat in celebration when saw the news on the BBC website this afternoon. Had horrible feeling he was going to go this summer with all the talk about us signing Joe Cole.

The length of the contract has given me a boner. It's a real statement of commitment from Modric to the club, fans, Redknapp, Levy, the other players and coaching staff etc.

He has had other big teams as he puts it, interested in signing him. He has no intention of going anywhere else and thinks he can achieve his ambitions with us. It is beginning to feel that a corner has been turned and we can build for an exciting future, Champions League hopefully and a new stadium.

Things are moving in the right direction and I wonder if Levy has discussed the calibre of players that we are after this transfer window when he and Modric were discussing the new deal.

In the past few seasons we have struggled to hold onto our best players when the established champions league teams came knocking, this season there was speculation about Bale and Modric and they have both put pen to paper on long term deals within a very short space of time.

The second phase will now be to attract a couple of big names before the season starts and to maintain a top 4 finish.

Phase 3 will be a new stadium and world domination. MWAAA HA HA HA HA, that was an evil laugh by the way.

COYS!!

With some of our domestic competitors struggling for one reason or another we have an opportunity over the next couple of seasons to establish ourselves as a force. We must grasp it because if we finish 6th or 7th next season all of this momentum will have been lost. I have a real sense that should next season be successful it could be the start of a very good period for the club.

Anyone else share my positivity?

Great news. Hopefully this stops our biennial act of selling a key player to Man Utd.

All the club needs to do is give Gomes a new 4 year contract and all our best players are on long term deals 9I believe he only has 2 years left)

Yeah i'm hoping Gomes gets sorted soon. Only one left now.

This was in one of the red tops earlier:

Tottenham have handed Luka Modric a £15million, six-year deal to fend off Manchester United.

Seems a bit low to me. £15,000,000 over 6 years works out to be £48k/week, gross. Surely he has to be worth a bit more than that.

I think Gomes is on one of our 4+2 year deals, so in effect has 4 years left.

A new 6 year deal for him would be nice though.

Possibly exercising our extension for Woody too if he gets back fit for pre-season, as he only has 1+2 left.

more from that piece of shit "the sun"

"Last season's top-four finish was an indication of where we are as a club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs."
Modric was a Juande Ramos signing in 2008 on the back of a superb showing at Euro 2008.
He struggled to justify the £16.5m fee Dinamo Zagreb received as Spurs made a dismal start under the Spaniard.
But he sparkled after Redknapp took over and moved him from a deep role to the playmaker position.

if i stand corrected didnt we sign him before the euro's???

fucking retards

I also thought Redknapp moved him from a #10 to LM; not deep (like he plays for Croatia in a 5 man midfieler) further forward.

1) Fucktards at the Bum still not got thir heads around the D.O.F. system...that, no doubt, they were very vocal in criticising, I see:roll:;

2) You are very much NOT in need of correcion, as L'il Luka was indeed unveiled as a Spurs player way before the Euros (or indee before the domestic season had even ended).

yep we signed him i think even before the season was over and definitely before the euro. If we had bought him afterwards he would have cost way more than what we paid.

we signed him before the season even finished because he was at WHL all suited and booted for one of the last games with Comolli.

Honestly that was a signing I never saw coming in a million years. I saw the back page that saturday and thought it was about Chelsea had signed him, then I actually woke up a bit and read it and we had!! Then I got very excited about a player I hadn't really heard of....as you do!

Well I was one to show massive amounts of worry that we might still lose Luka to United because they could double his salary. Who knew we could? Glad that my worry was all for naught. Love to be the idiot who didn't believe.

Looks like we've raised our top earner wage to £80k too. This should leave us in with a shout of getting the top, top triffic players to take us to the next level.
