Moutinho isn't meant for that position though, he'd be playing alongside one of them not instead of.

Having 3 top DMs isn't going to happen. Not on our budget, not within the restrictions of squad size and not when we need 8 homegrown players in the 25. Livermore in that role has been fine for us, people haranguing him for not being able to fulfil the need for a more creative player at the start of the season and subsequently playing whilst carrying a niggle as we had nobody else seem to have forgotten how well he did when called upon last season, not just in midfield but also as an emergency defender when needed. That's the kind of versatility and willingness you need from someone in his squad position.

If we do end up buying another player just to cover Sandro for 6 months, I know Levy has gone crazy as we are going to try and get rid of him in 6 months time as he wont play second fiddle to Sandro(who was the best DM in the league this season). I fear we may see another Dempsey type signing

I think probably 99% of fans are unsure exactly why we signed Dempsey.

Unless we can get someone in for free then we shouldn't be signing a new central midfielder until we've sold Livermore or Huddlestone.

left out the goat option,....

I have an "in house" solution -- move Vertonghen into the Sandro position and play Walker, Dawson, Caulker, and BAE accross the back. Kaboul will be back anyday now covering CD/RD, Parker can play every other game if need be (he's not really 100% yet to be honest) at DM, and even recall Rose for cover at LD so Verts isn't needed there...

DO NOT SPEND!!! Spurs have depth and flexibility :pompous:

I'd give Parrett the bench spot, he's good enough and with Dembele and Parker not managing 90 mins would be a good option to bring on and develop the player, raising his value if we decide to sell on.

So get rid of players proven at the level, bring in someone unpoven (Holtby) and who is not a defensive midfielder and play unproven youngsters to get by, crazy.

Personally i'd rather finish 4th which would be highly unlikely in your senario if anything happened to Parker. You'd have to play a boy who has only played against boys in a mans game.

You'd have 2 defensive midfielders on the books injured and under 21's. Dembele is not a defensive midfielder.

Don't think you've thought it through.

Holtby started as a DM and has played there for almost all of his career. This season he's been pushed forward and thrived, like Michu at Swansea

Young Jake is a truly average player who should be playing for the likes of West Ham! Mvia is a young talented & very highly rate d player with a questionable attitude but I would have him every day of the week!

I think spending is inevitable. It's far from ideal, but what would've been ideal is Sandro not getting injured, so that's already out the window.

Livermore is decent enough, but he's far from top 4 quality. Spending £6m on M'Vila will pay back in sevenfold if we manage to get a top 4 spot, and the loss will be huge if Parker gets injured and Livermore plays us all the way down to 7th place.

Alemania Aachen – 2008/09 – Left Midfield/Left Winger
VfL Bochum – 2010 – Left Midfield/Wing & Attacking Midfielder/Support Striker
Schalke – 2011/12 – Central Midfield
It seemed that after two successful loan spells Holtby was primed and ready to return to his club. Under Tuchel, Holtby appeared to have found his best position playing behind or off the striker and honed his game well enough to finally be a regular for Schalke.
Raul was deployed in the hole by coach Huub Stevens behind striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, which meant that if Holtby wanted to play regularly he had to again convert. Holtby would play the majority of the 2011/12 season in central midfield, a position completely unfamiliar to him in his professional career so far.
Schalke – 2012/13 – Attacking Midfielder/Support Striker

Ok so we're both wrong

You said he's not a defensive midfielder, yet his longest period at the highest level was played in that position

Reading ITK and all the talk that surrounds us, I believe Holbty will be our only signing.

Sell Livermore. Not good enough for us. Hudd will probably leave as well and with the £ we'll get from the (and the inevitable sales of Bentley, Jenas and Gomes), use that to buy at least one new quality CM, if not two.

The point is he has played less than a season as a defensive midfielder and that is not someone I'd want substituting for Sandro or Parker.

He played in that position because Raul wanted to play in his number 10 position. It would be asking for trouble and a waste of his creative talents to play him there, when we are so desperate for creativity up front.

As soon as Schalke could move him back to his better position they did. We need specialists covering the position rather than bits and pieces players. It's too important to Levy's minimum requirement, a top 4 finish.

Jenas is out of contract in the summer so no sale but a £45K a week wage saving. Bentley if memory serves has a year left and has shown he is more interested in the money than football so I wouldn't rank his sale as inevitable giving nobody has been prepared to pay his wages so far and he hasn't performed on loan spells.

It would be nice, but it's no forgone conclusion.
