Livermore. Who are we going to get that will be happy to be 3rd choice and not on the bench most weeks when Sandro returns? The point in having a big squad is to use it when we need to. No need to panic buy every time we have an injury.
Pretty much. We're weakened for sure and will have to try and compensate accordingly, if Parker is also knobbled but unless we get a sugar daddy we're not getting anyone better than Jake to sit around twiddling his thumbs for weeks on end and then come in and bust a gut for the cause. He's also homegrown and club trained which are considerations now. Injuries suck and will continue to blight teams outside of a half dozen in Europe when a particular area is hit.

I think it's mental that people are worried about having Jake a third string (to use an Americanism) player

How many other teams can have the quality of him and Hudd as third string players?

Having Parker as our back-up DM is absolutely brilliant. There are not many other teams out there that can boast Sandro and Parker as DM options, with the quality of Livermore and Hudd as further back-up. Some people on here need to be realistic about that. If Holtby comes in early, then I think we are perfectly fine until the summer.

I think it is unrealistic to expect us to sign a play like M'Vila (who I don't think we should - bit of a prick) of Sissoko (who I think we should sign in the summer - and is cheaper), and have them back-up to Parker, and then third string when Sandro is back. Unless we def. plan to sell Parker in the summer.

People are freaking out a bit. Injuries happen. You can't have 3 internationals for every fucking position. This isn't the NFL. Look at the Mourinho school of thought - the first team squad should be made up of 22 outfield players, plus 3 keepers. So, IMO, that is 4 fullbacks, 5 centre backs, 5 CMs, 4 wingers, 1 winger/AM/striker, 3 strikers. At the moment, we have:

3 keepers
3 fullbacks (plus Rose, but Verts can fill in)
5 centre backs
5 CMs (Sandro, Dembele, Parker, Hudd, Livermore)
3 wingers (Bale, Lennon, Townsend)
1 AMs (Siggi)
1 winger/AM/striker (Dempsey)
2 strikers

Holtby now would be a good addition (due to his fitting the AVB system and versatility) and would free up the Hudd to leave (doesn't fit the AVB system).

I still think our probklem is up front.

Not a huge fan of Livermore, but the money needs to be spent elsewhere

We have so many midfielders that I think we could offload a couple.

I just can't get excited by livermore, I've tried to see it but don't. With the likes of holtby signing and players like thudd and jenas on our books too, it would be nice if we could free up some cash towards the stadium. I'm pretty sure we could cope without one or two of the midfielders.

I'd be waving bentley, jenas, livermore, thudd etc in harrys direction

Sandro and Livermore are the same age

No they're not.

Jake Livermore is 23.

Sandro has been kept safe underneath Brazilian soil for thousands of years slowly evolving into the ultimate beast and waiting for the perfect time to be unleashed onto the world.

Livermore will get plenty of game time with Dembele being subbed most games and Parker just coming back from injury.

I think he is a decent enough player to do the job we need him to do. Just needs the chance

I think he can do a job alongside dembele should parker not be fit or for the last 20 of games. He will perhaps be better suited to our high energy pressing game than parker. At the start of the season he looked poor because him and sandro were both having to try and create more, which is neither's game, and feel he got some unfair criticism

He can do a job but we should expect more then just that. We cannot rely on Parker to play every game. We need another quality DM. Send Jake on loan to QPR

I cant see Parker being at his current high level next year at 33. M'Villa is cheap in todays market.

Theres obviously doubts as to why that is and why bigger clubs are not in for him but I have a feeling we will regret not signing him for the reported 7m

And when sandro gets back? M'vila has a rep as a bit of a prick, he won't be happy being a back up. The funds are needed elsewhere for the long term, not a stop gap

We are really talking about a temp 3rd choice DM/CM. With Dembele, Sandro and Parker to displace to get a regular 1st team starting place.
So effectively 4th in line, with Hudd, Carol and Jenes in the queue behind.
Paying millions to get better than Jake doesnt make sense. Lets go with what weve got for half a season and use whatever money weve got on a player maker or striker. Hopefully both.
Anybody thinking of the level of cover in midfield look at our left back situation with only 1 genuine left back covered by a centre back and right back.
My personal view is weve done alright.

It's a great shame because Livermore has a fantastic attitude, works hard and clearly loves the club, but he simply doesn't IMHO have the talent to play for a top 4 side even as a squad player. He'll make a career somewhere (I suspect at Championship level) and deservedly so but hard work and determination can only get you so far and that is not into the Champions League if we have to rely on Jake for the remainder of the season.

I'm all for giving youth a chance and not filling the squad with average players who block the talented kids prospects but apart from Caulker we've only really got Pritchard who is hammering on the door of the 1st team.

A few seasons ago a talented crop of youth players like Livermore, Carroll, Townsend, Mason & Rose (to mention just a few) would have had a good chance of graduating to our 1st team but we've got a lot better and one of the consequences has been to raise the bar for the kids and the opportunities for home grown talent are correspondingly reduced. We still have Coulibaly and Coulthirst with time on their side, and of course Caulker and Pritchard (if he stays) but I doubt any of the others will be 1st team regulars.

With Sandro out for the season CM is just too important a position to rely on Dembele and Parker staying healthy. We need to buy.

Hopefully Kaboul is back soon and if he is then we could slot him in for Parker if he goes down. Very mobile and a little better with the ball. Or even put Verts in there. They are both talented defenders with an innate desire to get forward.

But to answer the question, keep Livermore and don't spend the money.

Who do we want? Moutinho.
When do we want him? Now.

I voted Livermore but if we are going to spend money
let's buy someone now, that we tried to buy last summer
and intend to buy next summer rather than a stop gap that we don't really want,
because Livermore is perfectly adequate for that role.
Sell Hud and/or Livermore to offset the extra cost.
