Interesting that because Klopp and Guardiola have made a fuss about 5 subs, it’s dominating the news this week. If that was Dyche and Potter*, we wouldn’t even be talking about it.

I bet they change the rule too. Not sure how I feel about it because it’s really unfair on the lower clubs. I don’t know if I can take player welfare as an excuse too. Both Klopp and Guardiola mentioned Trent Alexander’s injury but injuries happen all the time anyway. It’s not like Klopp wanted to take him off before he got injured but couldn’t because he used all 3 subs. And there’s always been a risk of injury after using all 3 subs, that’s part of the game. I think it’ll be good for us because we have a great squad nowadays but I don’t think it’s particularly fair.

*Graham not Harry. If Harry Potter was talking about 5 subs then it would deservedly make news.

I hope we don't go back to the 5 subs, even though it would probably benefit us.
We have raised issues when we had early kick offs after European games, and noone seemed to care when we had 3 games a week.

If they are worried about the fitness of their players, then rotate them, rest them when needed.

I think the only thing you could do would be to allow clubs competing in Europe a couple of extra players in their EPL squad. As soon as you get knocked out, those named players must get taken out of the EPL squad. 5 subs is very unfair on clubs with small budgets.

I actually completely agree with Klopp. Just in our team, looking at the careers of Rose, Eriksen, and Kane they were all severely overplayed and have suffered physically with muscle tears caused by exhaustion, not normal injury. The workload on teams playing in Europe is immense.

Unfortunately these players are clearly worth billions, in reality worth so much more than their now astronomical wages indicate. As long as greedy and corrupt governing bodies continue to whore their product out for the maximum return then the players will be sacrificed. I have zero sympathy for anyone in the FA, at UEFA, or FIFA. If you really believe they’re on your side or even on the side of quality football, your head is fully in the sand. It’s just a 1-stop money equation for them.

To be fair to Klopp, he did use our playing on Thursday in Bulgaria and then the 12.00 match on Sunday as not right, it shouldn't be allowed and the FA/Premier League need to look at it.

He is a gurning cockwomble, but I think he's generally looking out for all player welfare rather than being on a self-serving mission.

It doesn't mean I like him, lets just get that straight... (y)

He’s not wrong though is he, and he’s not the first to moan about the scheduling of matches. Mourinho has been moaning about it for years, as have Wenger etc. The premier league have never looked to help the clubs in Europe.

I get why people wanted the subs to go back to normal, it does favour the bigger teams, but the authorities are trying to squeeze the same amount of games into a smaller space of time.

Something’s got to give.

Personally think that playing international friendlies at a time like this is hugely irresponsible of the national teams, they should have been scrapped this year, seems bloody obvious to me, it’s not even like they can get crowds in for a pay day. It’s just a complete waste of everyone’s time and energy. Nations league and qualifiers are fair enough I suppose.

Pretty sure that first Luis Garcia tweet is just describing what a professional sports training centre is. They’re a weird bunch but their fans don’t half lap it up which is why - much like Arsenal - some pretty average players from their past play up to it and tweet like the most blinkered fans.

Just looked at their game off the back of this and City only used one sub and Liverpool only used two :wideyed: Kinda ruins their own argument when they’re not even using up all three subs allowed in the current rules.

Would make quite a difference given you only have seven players on field at any time during a standard quidditch game
